The post holder will be required to work within the James Cook University Hospital and must have HCPC registration.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a key member of the gastroenterology, surgical & critical care teams, providing a specialist dietetic service to both inpatients and outpatients. Medical specialities include liver disease, hepato-pancreato-biliary conditions, inflammatory bowel disease, as well as general gastroenterology inpatients. Surgical specialities include colorectal surgery, upper lower GI, urology and gynaecology. On critical care you will see a variety of patients including major trauma, brain injuries, post-surgical patients, respiratory conditions & post-cardiothoracic surgical patients. The successful candidate will support patients with a wide range of conditions requiring all forms of nutrition support, including parenteral nutrition and home enteral tube feeding, and will become a key member of the trust nutrition team.

The successful candidate will be given regular supervision and support from experienced dietitians and will also be involved in providing education to other health care professionals and support workers.

The post-holder will also be responsible for the clinical supervision and development of junior staff and dietetic assistants on a daily basis

After you complete this four and a half days of training you will be able to explore further leadership and improvement training opportunities, we offer further in-house courses dependent upon your role and bitesize programmes and leadership apprenticeships at level 3,5 and 7.

Membership of: British Dietetic Association (BDA), Gastroenterology Group, critical care group, PENG, BAPEN, Other relevant groups

Qualifications and Training

To hold a Degree in Dietetics or equivalent To be registered as a Dietitian and fit to practice by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) To have Achieved or willing to work towards relevant Post-graduate qualification PENG To be committed to continuing professional development

Desirable criteria

Clinical supervisory skills training

Experience (band 5)

Essential criteria

Can demonstrate relevant/varied post graduate experience across a variety of clinical areas. Experience with managing patients on enteral feeds

Desirable criteria

To have experience in managing patients with complex nutritional needs including those with gastrointestinal problems or following surgical procedures To have experience of working within a high dependency unit or intensive care environment To have a basic insight into parenteral nutrition
