Position: SEN Teaching Assistant

 

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Teaching Assistant with SEN experience to join a well established SEN school in wadhurst. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the learning and development of our pupils, promoting their independence, self-esteem, and social inclusion.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with class teachers to raise the learning and attainment of pupils.
  • Promote pupils' independence, self-esteem, and social inclusion.
  • Provide support to pupils, individually or in groups, enabling them to access the curriculum, participate in learning, and experience a sense of achievement.

Duties and Responsibilities: Teaching and Learning:

  • Demonstrate an informed and efficient approach to teaching and learning by adopting relevant strategies to support the work of the teacher and increase achievement for all pupils.
  • Promote, support, and facilitate inclusion by encouraging participation in learning and extracurricular activities.
  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies in accordance with the school's policy.
  • Support class teachers in maintaining a good and safe learning environment.
  • Organize and manage teaching space and resources to create a stimulating and safe learning environment.
  • Observe pupil performance and provide feedback to the class teacher.
  • Supervise a class if the teacher is temporarily unavailable.
  • Utilize ICT skills to enhance pupils' learning.
  • Undertake any other relevant duties as assigned by the class teacher.

Planning:

  • Contribute to effective assessment and planning by supporting the monitoring, recording, and reporting of pupil performance and progress.
  • Familiarize yourself with lesson plans and prepare the classroom for lessons.

Working with Colleagues and Other Professionals:

  • Communicate effectively with staff members, pupils, parents, and carers under the guidance of the class teacher.
  • Share knowledge and understanding of pupils with other school staff and relevant professionals to inform decision-making on interventions and provision.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, including specialist advisory teachers, to support pupils' needs.
  • Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues.

Whole-School Organization, Strategy, and Development:

  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school's policies and practices.
  • Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school.

Health and Safety:

  • Promote the safety and wellbeing of pupils by following safeguarding requirements and the school's child protection policy.
  • Provide care and support to children who are upset or have had accidents.
  • Report any health and safety concerns according to the school's policy.

Professional Development:

  • Keep knowledge and understanding relevant and up-to-date through reflection and professional development opportunities.
  • Take part in the school's appraisal procedures.
  • Work towards acquiring the appropriate skills, qualifications, and experience needed for the role with support from the school.

Personal and Professional Conduct:

  • Uphold public trust in the education profession and maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour.
  • Adhere to the school's ethos, policies, and practices.
  • Demonstrate positive attitudes, values, and behaviours to develop effective relationships with the school community.
  • Respect individual differences and cultural diversity.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Level 2 or 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education, or other relevant qualification in nursery work or childcare (or willingness to work towards a qualification if not already held).
  • GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) including English and math’s.
  • Experience of working with children or young people with SEN, such as autism, social, emotional
