Cambridge, United Kingdom Redgate Full time

We’re seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join our team.

Redgate’s software transforms the way teams across the globe deliver their software. Our products solve database problems across the development lifecycle, from development to deployment all whilst ensuring performance and security.

Redgate’s Lead Software Engineers are responsible for improving how Redgate builds and maintains software, alongside actively contributing to product development. You’ll grow the skills of your team members with a focus on building technical skills though mentoring, coaching or teachingand you’ll be responsible for the quality ofengineering practices within the team.

You’ll be part of a cross-functional team and involved at every stage of the product life cycle, from early-stage research, to deployment, operations and beyond. Redgate teams are highly collaborative and take ownership of the product and the roadmap. Balancingcustomerneeds and market opportunity whilst building ingeniously simple software is at the heart of Redgate engineering.

Redgate’s technology is rapidly evolving (seeour)fromour desktop heritage to our server-based tooling future. We primarily use modern C# and React for developing our softwareand are moving to a cloud-native future.

We've got some exciting technical challenges ahead of us as we continue to focus on broadening our database offerings. Some technical challenges to solve include how we build tools that work with multiple RDBMS, and how we should architect our systems to work as well in the cloud as they do locally. We are also movingfrom predominately Windows-based software to be platform-neutral. And these are just some of the challenging problems you could work on as Redgate grows.

What kind of skills and behaviours wouldyou bring to makeyou an excellent Lead Software Engineer?

Excellent skillsusing a modern object-oriented language–we write code in a plethora of languages, including C#, Java, TypeScript and Go. You’re happy to learn new skills and technology as needed (with ample help and support from us). You enjoy building the skills of others in your team through pairing/coaching/mentoring as appropriate. You have strong opinions, but you’re not afraid to change them in light of new evidence. You believe in showing over telling; if your approach to a problem is better, then a demonstrating it is much better.

And in return, Redgate provides:

A, A(Friday afternoonsarededicated to your personal development) Salary of £70,000 to £90,000 depending on your experience

At Redgate, we strive for a diverse and inclusive workplace that brings together amazing people to create the best software possible. To support this, we have a recruitment process that is fair and equitable and is designed to see the best in every individual and for us to learn what qualities you can bring to our team. If you have a disability, we can make reasonable adjustments to our recruitment process according to your needs, so please do make us aware on anything that you would benefit from. We don’t need or want everyone to be the same; we want a great mix of additions to our team

For roles within our Product Division, we are keen for applicants to know that we are working hard to improve the representation of people from underrepresented backgrounds. Improving the gender balance of this division is a priority so we are particularly keen to hear from women, but please know that we want applications from anyone who wants to be a part of our inclusive business.

At Redgate we recruit on a rolling basis, which means we carry on recruiting until we find the right person for the role. We tend to compare individuals to the role specification rather than to each other.

If this role sounds exciting, then we would like to hear from you.
