Beccles Medical Centre is looking to recruit a Pharmacy Technician tojoin our growing team of Pharmacy Technicians and Clinical Pharmacists. Thepost is being offered at NHS Band 4 / NHS Band 5, subject to experience

Clinical Pharmacy in General Practice is part of an exciting programmeof transformation to develop a new model of care which addresses our ambitionto deliver person-centred, coordinated care. There is a need to better utilisethe role of pharmacy within primary care to pro-actively help patients staysafe and well and out of hospital as well as helping to reduce the demands ongeneral practice.

Main duties of the job

You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to improve thequality and safety of care. You will have regular contact with patients helpingto reduce the workload of GPs. The role includes development of practice teamsto increase effective pharmacy administration within general practice,especially in relation to repeat prescribing processes including promotion ofrepeat dispensing and online ordering, minimising clinical risk and aiming toreduce wasted medicines.

The post holder will help patients to get the best from their medicinesin a variety of ways, including face to face patient consultations. Inaddition, the post-holder will be responsible for developing betterunderstanding of the principles of medicines optimisation and promoting goodpractice in line with therapeutic developments. This will involve assisting thepractice in achieving national requirements, NICE implementation andutilisation of medicines optimisation initiatives.

The role will be based entirely at Beccles Medical Centre.

Pharmacy technicians play an important role, complementing clinicalpharmacists, community pharmacists and other members of the PCNmulti-disciplinary team. Pharmacy technicians core role and responsibilitieswill cover clinical, technical and administrative categories, working undersupervision to ensure effective and efficient use of medicines.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

GCSE in Maths, English and Science BTEC / NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences Candidates must be registered with the GPhC

Experience

Essential

Good clinical pharmacy knowledge, including terminology. Knowledge and understanding of pharmacy law and ethics and current legislation. Evidence of Continued Professional Development. Previous work experience in a pharmacy or healthcare setting. Experience of dealing directly with the public/patients.

Desirable

Previous work experience in Primary Care. Experience of clinical audit.

Skills

Essential

Ability to work effectively, independently and as part of a multi-skilled team. Computer literate in Microsoft Office packages. Accurate and detail oriented. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work under pressure in a busy environment. Ability to plan, prioritise and organise workload. Able to adapt and adjust to changing environments, guidance and protocols.

Desirable

Experience of using TPPs SystmOne clinical system.
