Overall purpose of the job

As the Area Operations Manager, you will be crucial in the day-to-day management of operations and people across our Daycare and Rescue sites.

We have experienced teams in place but there are so many aspects where we could do better if someone had the time, focus and passion to work through our challenges. This role is for someone who wants to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in, working alongside our site managers in creating centres of excellence. 

We’re looking for someone who thrives under pressure and can rise to the challenges of life in rescue, which can be unpredictable, stressful and rewarding in equal measures.

You will have to deal with the day-to-day demands of busy rescue and daycare  environments, think on your feet and adapt to whatever comes your way.

Key responsibilities and person specification 

People management

We are looking for someone who can manage our teams and support and shape their development, who can find and implement new, innovative ways of working and lead by example at every level.

Rescue is an amazing and fulfilling place to be, but it can also be emotionally demanding.  We need a people manager who leads with empathy and kindness, understands the demands on our people, but who is also challenging, pragmatic and stretches our people to be the best they can be.

  • Recruitment and Development:  identifying gaps in the teams’ skill sets, evolving our structures, roles and responsibilities as we continue to grow.
  • Day to day management of staff rotas, co-ordinating annual leave requests, managing volunteer schedules.
  • Performance, development and wellbeing reviews with senior staff.

Operational management

Life at Dogs 4 Rescue and Daycare 4 Dogs is exciting, unpredictable and you never know what each day will throw at you.

The post holder will need to provide hands on support to staff who are responding to unexpected events.  You’ll need to be comfortable with uncertainty and be able to flex according to the needs of any given day.

  • Support managers and staff in day-to-day operational decision making.
  • Set priorities and ensure the safe running of the Rescue and Daycare     operations.
  • Take responsibility for operating processes and procedures
  • Oversee day to day management of IT systems and software. Research and implement new systems if and when required.
  • Ensure Health and Safety practices are appropriate, and records are   maintained across all sites.
  • Oversee purchasing, stock control and spend across all sites.
  • Be involved in activities / events to promote the Rescue.

Essential knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Passionate about dog rescue with a driving determination to make a        difference and willingness to go above and beyond.
  • Able to see how our mission, vision, and values translate in processes, working practices and culture.
  • Experience of operational management in a high-pressured environment with multiple priorities and competing demands. A problem solver with a  can do attitude.
  • Relevant experience of leading teams and driving high performance. Able  to motivate and inspire a diverse group of people.
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.  Able to listen,            influence, persuade and negotiate and be the conduit between               management and teams on the ground.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent IT skills including experience of database management.
  • Full driving licence and access to transport.
