Job summary

To leadthe psychology team and to provide a direct psychological service to clients,carrying out assessments of their needs and abilities and using thisinformation to formulate and monitor appropriate programmes and strategies.

Tosupport staff engaged in the cognitive, physical communication, functional,social and emotional rehabilitation of adults with acquired brain injury and arange of other neurological conditions.

Main duties of the job

To lead and support thepsychology team at CRC

To provide a directpsychological service to clients and their families at Neuro RehabilitationServices, conducting and interpreting a wide range of assessment procedures.

To develop the out-patientservice for non-residential clients requiring clinical psychology.

To provide therapeutic supportto clients through group work and individual sessions.

To prepare detailed professionalreports on client assessment and progress and make recommendations for futureprovision.

To direct and supervise theclinical work of the clinical staff and students within the centre asappropriate.

To provide training andconsultation to colleagues on the cognitive, emotional, social and behaviouralimplications of acquired brain injury and to devise, implement and monitorstrategies to facilitate learning and management of the behaviour of clients.

To conduct analysis of outcomesand participate in service evaluation.

To support the CRC GeneralManager, Head of Clinical Services,. the Psychology team and members of themulti-disciplinary team, as required.

To advise the CRC GeneralManager and Head of Clinical Services on the suitability of prospectiveclients.

To represent the Service atmeetings, conferences etc. networking and giving presentations as required.

To keep abreast of developmentsin the field of brain injury rehabilitation.

To provide supervision to lessexperienced colleagues in Clinical Psychology.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Doctorate level training in clinical psychology/ neuro-psychology Current HCPC registration.

Desirable

Professional qualifications and experience in any of the following: Neuropsychology, counselling, psychotherapy, or behaviour management. Further training/ Qualification relevant to Neuro-rehabilitation.

Experience

Essential

Experience with Adult Neurologically impaired adults. Experience of management at least at team/middle management level. Working with carers. Experience working with people with cognitive impairments. Experienced in the use of neuropsychological assessment to inform care planning. Experience working with clients whose behaviour challenges. Experience delivering supervision. Experience working with people who have an acquired brain injury / in a neuro-rehab setting.

Desirable

Experience delivering mindfulness based interventions. Experience facilitating psycho-education or psychological therapy groups. Experience working with families. Experience working with staff teams in a residential setting.

Knowledge and skills

Essential

Able to manage workload independently and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Good decision making and problem solving skills. Excellent clinical skills High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies. Ability to manage a small team of Psychologists Networking abilities within the profession Skills in providing consultation to other professional and nonprofessional groups. The ability to use and interpret specialist psychological and neuro-psychological assessment materials. Quality assurance Knowledge of current theoretical models and skills in working with people whose behaviour challenges. Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS. Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practised within the clinical fields of psychology. Ability to contain, explore and formulate an understanding of high levels of distress both directly with patients and indirectly consultation with other staff.

Desirable

Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies with individuals with acquired brain injury. Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group. Able to reflect on how ones own issues of difference and diversity influence decision making in clinical practice. Service development.
