About the role

The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) is the organisation through which the Mayor of London exercises his role as the Police and Crime Commissioner for London and is led by the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime. MOPAC undertakes a broad range of statutory duties and works closely with the Mayor of London, Deputy Mayor and Metropolitan Police Service to deliver the priorities that will create safer London communities.

The Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) is seeking a Data and Information Governance Officer to join our team You'll play a vital role in helping us make the most of our data, while keeping it safe and secure.

The Data and Information Governance Officer role at MOPAC is responsible for ensuring the organisation adheres to data protection regulations and best practices. This involves providing expert advice and training to staff across all levels, working with Data Champions to promote good data practices, and developing a robust Data Governance Framework. You'll also be involved in identifying and resolving data management issues, and keeping up-to-date on the latest data governance requirements.

What you'll do:

Be our go-to expert on data protection, providing clear and actionable advice to staff at all levels. Champion good data practices across MOPAC, working with our Data Champions to ensure everyone understands how to handle information responsibly. Develop and deliver training programs that empower staff to manage data effectively. Partner with teams across MOPAC to identify and address data management challenges. Help us build a robust Data Governance Framework, ensuring we comply with all relevant regulations.

You'll be a great fit if you have:

A knack for organization and time management – you can juggle multiple tasks while meeting deadlines. A keen eye for detail and a commitment to high-quality work. Experience creating reports and documentation that make data governance understandable for everyone.

Political Restriction 

Political Restriction: under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 (as amended by the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011), all MOPAC staff members will be politically restricted without the right to apply for an exemption. 

Security Vetting Clearance 

The successful candidates will be expected to undergo the necessary security vetting, which may take around eight weeks to complete. Applicants must possess the legal right to work in the UK and have resided in the UK continuously for at least the last three years.

Where are we based?  

We have moved to a hybrid working model with office hubs at Union Street (near London Bridge) and Newlands Park (postcode SE26). On average, staff will work 1-2 days a week from an Office Hub, which may differ depending on the role requirements.
