Job summary

We are seeking an experienced and ambitious full-time Consultant Psychiatrist who will work at Cygnet Hospital Churchill and provide senior medical cover on our 17 bedded acute service for men.

The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician and will oversee and maintain the care of all ward inpatients as required and will also have responsibility for auditing the medical services rendered at the ward and ensuring their good quality in accordance to GMC standards of good medical practice and other relevant professional guidelines.

The post holder is also invited to consider taking on the role of Deputy Medical Director at the Cygnet Churchill, our 57 bed inpatient mental health hospital for men. This represents a good opportunity to progress to Medical Director level through our management schemes.

In this role, you'll combine clinical expertise with sound strategic acumen and inspiring leadership to oversee the delivery of the very best care whilst fully supported by a Specialty Doctor and first-class multidisciplinary team including qualified nurses, psychologist and occupational therapist.

This role will be based onour 17 bedded male acute service .The service provides a safe and stabilising environment for men who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission.

Cygnet Hospital Churchill ,with a GoodCQC overall rating and locatedin South / Central London, is a 57 bed inpatient mental health hospital for men. Cygnet Churchill has four wards including an emergency acute admissions service (Juniper Ward) and three high dependency inpatient rehabilitation services (Elm Court, Maple Court and Mulberry Court).

In this role, your expertise will be the driving force for life-changing treatment fully supported by two Specialty Doctors and first-class multidisciplinary team.

Your role responsibilities

Work as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the MDT Assess referrals & undertake mental state examinations of service users Undertake appropriate investigations, diagnosis & treatment Participate in ward rounds & clinical audits Lead the implementation of risk assessment, risk management & embed clinical governance Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals & managers hearings & attend hearings Participate in the 1 in 3 Second telephone on-call rota

Fully GMC Registered on the Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry& MBBS (or equivalent) qualified Approved Clinician Status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment Experienced & knowledgeable in General Adult Psychiatry Knowledgeable of current issues in General Adult Psychiatryand the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, along with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity A first-rate communicator who can interview, assess & treat patients & write clear, comprehensive medical notes Committed to continued professional development Has actively participated in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team A member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent
