Job summary

The Metabolic Medicine service at Great Ormond Street Hospital would like to announce an exciting opportunity for a 12 months fixed term Clinical Research Fellow post.

The Clinical Research fellow will help to correlate phenotypic, biochemical and genetic features in a cohort of patients with neurodegenerative inherited metabolic disorders recruited from Metabolic Outpatients clinics at Great Ormond Street Hospital. The Fellow will also provide a vital clinical support role for patients and families who are attending the Clinical Research facility at GOSH to participate in clinical trials .

Applicants should possess a primary medical degree with membership to the royal college of Physicians or RCPCH (MRCPCH /FRCPCH) and should be at ST5 level or above. They should possess at least one year's experience of Clinical Paediatric Metabolic Medicine.

Main duties of the job

Identify suitable patients from Great Ormond Street Hospital outpatient clinics and referred nationally. Evaluate clinical features of each patient and gather all available clinical data from clinical records. Obtain necessary clinical samples from the affected proband and family members for genetic and biochemical studies Correlate clinical, biochemical and genetic data in a database To liaise with collaborating UK and international groups and to present work to these groups and meetings as required. To record, analyse and write up the clinical data and laboratory experiments. To contribute to the overall, normal activities of the research team and department as required, including laboratory duties and attendance of department meetings and seminars. To provide clinical support for the clinical Inherited Metabolic Disease patient trials on the Clinical Research Facility at GOSH. To comply with health and safety regulations and to ensure equipment is maintained and used in good working order. To contribute to the drafting and submission of meeting abstracts, posters and research manuscript

Academic/Professional qualification/Training

Essential

Medically qualified with a primary medical degree MBBChir, MBChB Membership of the Royal College of Physicians/ Paediatricians or equivalent MRCPCH/FRCPCH Full GMC registration with Licence to Practice or IELTS Certificate with an overall score of with a minimum score of '7' in each domain or Occupational English Test (medicine version) with a minimum score of 'B' in each domain.
