An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Community Safeguarding Serviceat Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust as a Safeguarding Specialist Nurse.

The Safeguarding Nurse Specialist will be enthusiastic, highly motivated and would welcome applications from individuals with significant safeguarding experience , a sound knowledge and understanding of safeguarding children and adults.

Main duties of the job

The Safeguarding Specialist Nurse will be responsible for supporting community staff with complex safeguarding cases through safeguarding advice; supervision and training. Other aspects of the role will include health contribution in the Sheffield Safeguarding Hub and Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC); advice and support to community staff with legal statements for Care Proceedings and contribution to safeguarding audits and reviews.

The Safeguarding Specialist Nurse will provide support, direction, scrutiny, professional challenge and escalation as role involves regular input into the Sheffield Safeguarding Hub, sharing health information appropriately to assist with screening of safeguarding concerns; contributing to multi-agency discussion and decision-making .

The Safeguarding Nurse Specialist will act as a key decision maker for Health in different aspects of multi-agency work.

Safeguarding Nurse Specialists are required to attend relevant meetings within and outside the Trust as agreed by the Community Named Nurse.

The Safeguarding Nurse Specialist will be required to:

Work in partnership within and outside the Trust, supporting service delivery and developments in line with local and national policy directives. Work in line with Sheffield Children & Adult Safeguarding Partnership Procedures; Sheffield Threshold of Need Guidance; Trust policies, all of which are consistent with statutory guidance and legislation Working Together (2023); Children Act (1989); Children Act (2004); the Care Act 2014 and other legislation relating to safeguarding children and adults. Support Safeguarding Practitioners & Champions with management of safeguarding supervision with regard to the most vulnerable children/ young people and adults. Provide reflective and restorative safeguarding supervision to support identified staff groups. Have key responsibilities which will require them to work closely with Named Professionals, safeguarding teams within and outside the Trust; Line Managers and colleagues. Support staff to intervene early, engage the most vulnerable and at risk families; ensuring they receive help & support, according to identified needs. Ensure robust risk assessments are undertaken, clinical decision making is based on local safeguarding procedures and best practice. Promote delivery of high quality services to improve outcomes for children; young people and their families. Share health information about the most vulnerable children, young people and adults, within the legal framework when working with statutory and other partner agencies. Assess incoming safeguarding work including referrals for safeguarding supervision; oversee cases subject to safeguarding supervision, in conjunction with Safeguarding Practitioners/ champions and Team Leaders. Provide a key link with Safeguarding Practitioners/champions to ensure their work with the most vulnerable families remain safe and co-ordinated. Work closely with partner agencies, supporting early assessment, intervention, responding early to the needs of the most vulnerable children; young people and their families. Manage records in line with Trust policies and NMC standards. In conjunction with the Community Named Nurse, monitor and evaluate delivery and quality of safeguarding and supervisory practice within community services. Respond to requests from the Trust, Safeguarding Partnership, Sheffield Domestic and Sexual Abuse Coordination Team (DACT). With support from the Community Named Nurse, provide agency reports for child and adult safeguarding reviews Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews; Domestic Abuse related deaths; serious incident reviews (SIRs); or any other safeguarding reviews. Co-ordinate and undertake Trust safeguarding audits; contribute to multi-agency audits, acting on the findings to improve practice. Cascade and reinforce learning from reviews/audits; support implementation and completion of action plans to improve practice. Contribute to delivery, development and review of safeguarding training programmes. Deputise for the Named Nurse in their absence providing representation at relevant meetings.

Qualifications & Training

Essential

NMC Registered Registered Nurse with SCPHN qualification: School nursing/Health visiting or equivalent Ongoing professional development - includes safeguarding Safeguarding supervision qualification, or equivalent Leadership and management training or equivalent

Desirable

Master's degree - includes safeguarding or working towards Post graduate safeguarding training Community Specialist practitioner

Experience

Essential

Significant post registration experience as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse or equivalent and substantial recent experience in safeguarding children and adults. Experience safeguarding supervision delivery or willingness to develop knowledge and skills required to deliver effective restorative safeguarding supervision

Desirable

Experience of Leading a Team Experience/involvement in undertaking safeguarding reviews Experience of teaching, mentoring and facilitating professional development of staff.

Knowledge

Essential

Knowledge of statutory guidance and legislation regarding protection of children and adults; Awareness of the complex issues involved when working across organisations and disciplines

Desirable
