Job summary

This is an exciting time to join our clinical team whilst we areundergoing expansion, service transformation and development.

Childrens palliative care involves delivering short respitebreaks aimed at having fun and adding life to shortened years as well as endof life care and care after death. We are looking for individuals who will enjoydelivering high quality clinical and personal care alongside joining inactivities, with high staff/children ratios allowing for you to make a real differenceand make memories. You will be part of a multi disciplinary team including nurses,nursing associates, HCAs, activities coordinators and a child and familysupport team. You will work as part of a 24/7 rota with the choice to work shortand long shifts.

We have a mixture of adult, learning disability and paediatricnurses working in the care team and value all the different skills that nursesbring. You do not need to have experience of working in palliative care orpaediatrics as we offer a comprehensive development and preceptorship programmealong with inhouse training which can be delivered to support staff to achieveclinical skills and confidence.

Main duties of the job

In offering palliative care through the provision of respite breaks, and adding life to shortened years, you will provide high quality, holistic, family centred and compassionate care whilst meeting the complex clinical needs of the children in our care. The hospice delivers end of life care to a small number of children, working with specialist teams providing training and advice to manage childrens symptoms effectively. To deliver this you will:

- Provide clinical nursing assessment, robust care planning and evaluation of care.

- Participate in the training and development opportunities and frameworks provided by the education team.

- Use clinical judgment to manage the deteriorating patient, following care plans, escalation of care and the use of patient safety tools.

- Advocate for the child and young person and their families, supporting and promoting decisions, choices and best interests.

- Work as part of a team, providing support and supervision to students and junior members of staff.

- Ensure the holistic care of children and young people, by liaising with the wider support teams within the hospice. Working with support, provide end of life care to children or young people staying at the hospice.

- Provide assessment of children who are end of life ensuring symptoms are controlled, liaising with the specialist palliative care teams as required.

Skills

Essential

Ability to communicate effectively with children, families and professionals. Ability to work as part of a team. Demonstrate the values of a hospice. Knowledge of child and adult safeguarding procedures. Competent IT skills. Access to a car - hospice not served by public transport.

Desirable

Teaching and mentorship qualification. IV competency.

Experience

Essential

1 year post qualification

Desirable

Experience of working with CYP with complex needs. Experience of a range of clinical competencies. Experience of working in a palliative care setting.
