We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated clinician to join our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Learning Disability (LD) team to help deliver responsive and effective support for children, young people and their families.

Main duties of the job

You will be a qualified professional, holding current registration witha relevant professional body. You will manage a caseload of young people withcomplex mental health needs, providing assessments and therapeutic treatment programmesfor these CYP. You will care co-ordinate a number of young people on yourcaseload, carry out risk assessments appropriate for children and young peoplewith a learning disability and monitor and evaluate interventions using outcomemeasures.

Working in collaboration withother relevant agencies according to the needs of the young person, you will bepromoting and maintaining good working relationships and effectivecommunication through liaison with service users, colleagues and other professionals.

You will operate in any appropriate settings including CAMHS bases,schools, families homes, residential homes, etc.

Due to working within highly emotional environments, will require a high degree of self-awarenessand effective communication skills at all levels.

You will be expected to work on a flexible basis, to ensure the service can operate effectivelyto meet individual needs.

This post requires the post holder to be able to undertake allmandatory training including Safety Intervention (subject to OccupationalHealth Clearance).

Job description

Job responsibilities

The postholder will:

Act as arole model to colleagues, always seeking to maintain the highest standards ofprofessionalism. Holdcontinuing responsibility and effective management of the learning disabilitypathway case load in CAMHS, ensuring recovery focused specialist healthinterventions are delivered to children and young people with learning disabilitiesand mental health needs in a multi-disciplinary team. Assist inmonitoring the appropriateness of referrals in relation to service accesscriteria, and monitor/develop the child service offered. Asses themental health/behavioural needs and deliver therapeutic interventions withyoung people and their families, using approaches such as functional anddevelopmental assessment, Positive Behaviour Support and family/parenting work. Act as akey worker for an individual caseload. Withintheir sphere of competence, be responsible for promoting and safeguarding thewelfare of the children, young people and/or vulnerable adults for whom theyare responsible or may come into contact with in. Facilitate/teacheffective systems to carers/parents to enable the transfer of skills requiredto maintain positive management of behaviours. Deliverconsultation to other professionals and agencies. Work withcomplex individuals and groups to prevent relapse of mental health andbehaviours that challenge. Support genericCAMHS staff in learning disability related issues. Promoteknowledge of mental health and the prevention of mental health illness withchildren and young people, members of the public and families. Review andreflect on own practice and performance through effective use of professionaland operational supervision and the staff appraisal system. Promoteand maintain good working relationships and effective communication throughliaison with service users, colleagues and other professionals. Carry out riskassessments appropriate for children and young people with a learningdisability. Monitor and evaluate interventionsusing outcome measures. Develop, monitor and auditstandards of practice to ensure compliance with best practice. Design and delivertraining to carers and education staff; team members; colleagues in the trust;and a variety of other agencies.

Qualifications

Essential

Relevant professional qualification RNLD, OT, SALT, Social Work, RMN etc. Postgraduate qualification relevant to child and adolescent mental health and learning disabilities or relevant further training I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer
