Bristol, United Kingdom EDF Full time

Design Engineering EPR-E Graduate Programme

At EDF UK success is personal. We don’t define it, you do. Join our Design Engineering EPR-E Graduate Programme and you’ll achieve your career goals in the way you want to. All while contributing to our mission to help Britain achieve Net Zero.

"I've found the EDF DEG graduate programme such an amazing opportunity. I never thought that I would have the opportunity to work abroad and be given the chance to learn a new language. Everyone has been supportive and helpful through my journey and I am now on my way to becoming a chartered engineer." Caleb, Design Engineer

Ready to kickstart your career in Design Engineering? Join EDF's 18-month Design Engineering EPRE Graduate Programme, where you’ll gain hands-on experience and develop a broad range of skills and knowledge in EPRE engineering working in the Site Integrated Team until HPC is commissioned or within Nuclear Services.

What does this Design Engineering EPR-E opportunity offer you?

Embark on a transformative 18-month programme that offers you the chance to experience placements across our nuclear new build programme. These opportunities will include working on Software and Hardware based Reactor Protection Systems, Plant computing systems, Process Automation and Control Systems. Hinkley Point C will be the largest and most complex nuclear power station ever constructed generating some 7% of the UK’s electricity carbon free. The instrumentation and control systems are the brains behind the power station and critical to ensure safe reliable operations. The systems are designed and built in France and Germany. During the graduate programme, you will have an opportunity to learn about these systems while working in EDF’s offices in the Bristol or at Hinkley Point C for an initial period of 9 months followed by a 9-month placement in France embedded within the EPRE design organisation (Edvance) or our supplier (Framatome). On your return to the UK you will be part of the HPC EPRE site integrated team or Nuclear Services, taking ownership of the systems and implementing modifications to them to enable commissioning and start-up of the power station. You could find yourself working with a number of different teams including Commissioning, Pre Operations or Engineering. The work you do will be key in transforming Hinkley Point C from a complex construction project to an operating nuclear power station.

Pay, benefits and culture:

Alongside a starting salary of £37,500 and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We’re talking about everything from electric vehicle leasing to gym membership, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, season ticket loans to enhanced parental leave.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. Our commitment is to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, the LGBTQ+ community, people with a disability and colleagues from a disadvantaged background.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our team members drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. There’s no single definition — it's about individuality. That’s why we give you the freedom to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

Training, Development, and support for you:

We’re passionate about your development and offer a tailored training path that will help develop your skills, knowledge, and behaviours, both during the programme and in your future career.

You’ll contribute to different projects throughout the programme, which may include:

Work on EDF systems. Supporting design reviews. Factory acceptance testing in France. Site acceptance testing. Commissioning testing. Trouble shooting and performing software modification when systems arrive at HPC site in UK.  Within one year of completion of the programme you’ll be applying the skills and knowledge you have gained as you build your career in EPRE engineering working in the Site Integrated Team until HPC is commissioned or within Nuclear Services.

Your work location:

Following an induction with Graduates from all of our programmes at our state of the art facility, Cannington Court (Somerset) in September 2024, you’ll spend the first 9 months of the programme working in the Southwest, where you will spend time at our design office in Aztec West (Bristol), and at Hinkley Point C. The final 9 months of your programme will be spent in France.

Who you are:

To join our team, you’ll need a 2:2 Bachelor’s Degree or a 2:2 Postgraduate Degree (obtained or expected) in Electrical, Electronics, Control Instrumentation, Maths, Physics, Automation or Software Engineering (Note: For this role you will need to have an aptitude and interest in Software Engineering).

You’d need to be open to relocate to France as part of the programme and have an interest to learn the French language. Additionally, you must meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which generally requires you to have been a UK resident for at least 3 of the last 5 years.

Our Virtual Assessment Centre will take place on Wednesday 27th November.
