Learning Support Assistant (LSA) – Alternative Provision
Location: Bury St Edmunds
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

A highly reputable and well-established group of Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join the team in their alternative provision setting in Bury St Edmunds. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to support students who face barriers to learning and require a more tailored educational approach to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with a range of additional needs, including social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and other learning challenges.
  • Assist in the delivery of individual education plans (IEPs) under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Support students in developing emotional regulation, social skills, and positive behaviors.
  • Adapt resources and teaching methods to meet the individual needs of each learner.
  • Help to maintain a positive, nurturing, and safe environment conducive to learning.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other staff to implement effective interventions.
  • Encourage pupil independence and foster a sense of belonging within the school community.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a Learning Support Assistant (LSA), Teaching Assistant (TA), or in a similar role, ideally within an SEN or alternative provision setting.
  • A strong understanding of special educational needs, particularly SEMH and ASD.
  • Ability to build rapport with young people who may display challenging behaviors and exhibit patience, resilience, and empathy.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Team player, with a flexible and proactive approach to supporting students and staff.
  • Experience working with students who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) is desirable.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent) would be advantageous, but not essential for candidates with suitable experience.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
