A leading alternative provision school located in The Wirral is dedicated to supporting students who have previously struggled in mainstream education. The students have special educational needs, including those with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) issues, and many have Educational Health Care Plans (EHCPs) in place. Job Description: They are seeking a compassionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team. The successful candidate will support students with a range of special educational needs, managing challenging behaviours and providing sensitive, individualized care. Building strong, trusting relationships with the students is key to helping them feel comfortable and guiding them to achieve their best.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the delivery of tailored educational programs to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Support students with SEMH issues, helping them to manage their emotions and behaviours.
  • Build and maintain strong, supportive relationships with students to foster trust and engagement.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with EHCPs.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and other support staff to provide holistic support for students.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and achievement.
  • Handle challenging behaviours calmly and effectively, using appropriate strategies to de-escalate situations.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children with SEMH issues, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Understanding of EHCPs and experience supporting students with special educational needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations.
  • Empathy, sensitivity, and a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable students.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • A supportive and inclusive school community.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
