Learning Support Assistant

We are working with a secondary school in Portsmouth that is seeking a dedicated and proactive Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join their team as soon as possible. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about making a positive impact on students’ learning experiences, particularly those with additional needs.

 

Key responsiblities:
  • Support individual students or small groups in accessing the curriculum, particularly those with Special Educational Needs (SEND), ensuring they are fully engaged and making progress.
  • Work closely with teachers to plan, prepare, and adapt resources to meet the needs of students, enabling them to participate in lessons effectively.
  • Provide academic and emotional support, helping students develop confidence and achieve their full potential in both their academic and personal development.
  • Assist with classroom management, ensuring that the learning environment is conducive to all students, maintaining focus and minimising disruptions.
  • Foster a positive learning environment, building strong relationships with students, encouraging positive behaviour, and supporting the school's ethos.
  • Implement personalised learning plans, adapting support strategies to cater to students' unique learning styles and needs.
  • Work collaboratively with the SENCO and teaching staff to provide consistent support across the school.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, keeping accurate records and liaising with teachers and parents when necessary.

 

Expectations:
  • Previous experience working as a Learning Support Assistant or in a similar educational support role, particularly with secondary-aged students.
  • Strong understanding of SEND, particularly Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Ability to engage and motivate students, using patience and encouragement to promote a positive learning environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with staff, students, and parents.
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people in their academic journey, helping them overcome barriers to learning.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
