This is an exciting opportunity to work within the Early Intervention in Psychosis Team/ Community Mental Health Team where you will play a vital role with the support of Care Co-ordinators in supporting our carers, families and significant others to allow carers mental health and resilience to be optimised by providing information, advice, assessment and support for carers of people under EIT/CMHT . You will also promote provision for carers in line with current national and local objectives and policies.
Main duties of the job
As the Carer Support Worker you will be responsible for providing practical and emotional support for an allocated number of individual carers, following the individual carers assessment and needs and entitlement identified, and under the direction of the care coordinator.
You will support the completion of carer’s assessments.
You will promote social inclusion through developing opportunities in areas such as participating in community based recreational or social activity.

Education / Qualifications
Essential criteria
•Recognised competency based level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care ( NVQ/QCF level 3, Level 3 Apprenticeship), or equivalent demonstrable experience, OR •Will undertake recognised competency based level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care once in post
Desirable criteria
Ability and desire to obtain both underpinning knowledge and NVQ qualifications combined with a commitment to undertake Continuing Personal Development. Training in mental health/social care. Carer awareness training
Experience
Essential criteria
Experience of working (either paid or voluntary) on a one to one basis with carers of people with enduring mental health problems. Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a mental health/social care setting. Experience of assessing the needs of people. Have experience of liaising with a range of health & social care services.
Desirable criteria
Experience of engaging in group work. Experience of assisting individuals experiencing emotional distress.
Knowledge & Understanding
Essential criteria
Have an awareness of the rights of carers. Have basic knowledge of the range of mental health difficulties, treatments and interventions to underpin the role of the carer support worker. Have knowledge of carers assessments. Awareness of local support services available for carers. Have an understanding of equal opportunities legislation. Have an understanding of policies and procedures in relation to confidentiality, information sharing and safeguarding.
Desirable criteria
Knowledge of the Care Act Knowledge of relevant legislation/policies and procedures for carers. Knowledge of benefits/employment systems. Understanding/knowledge of Early Intervention in Psychosis/Community Mental Health services
Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with carer distress. Be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people including carers, service users, other professionals and external agencies. IT literate, including record keeping. Have excellent written and verbal communication skills Be aware of the limits of own competence and responsibilities and know when to liaise with others Be able to demonstrate initiative but consult with others when necessary. Be able to work autonomously with good organisational skills. To show commitment to one’s own professional development. Ability to work flexibly including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays as required. There is a requirement to travel mainly within the Bolton area and an occasional requirement to travel across the wide footprint of the Trust to attend meetings and events relevant to the roleApplicants are encouraged to apply for posts at Greater Manchester Mental Health who have direct experience of mental health, learning disability or drug and alcohol services either as a service user or a carer.
