Job summary

Larksfield and Arlesey Medical Partnership is looking to welcome an experienced and qualified phlebotomist into our busy practice, to support our nursing team - this role is for 25 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

Working strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols toassist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care; Collecting samples of blood in accordance with training and procedures, ensuring correct storage, labelling, recording and efficient dispatching of samples; Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible, and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample; Checking patient identification against GP or nurse request, and confirming with the patient whenever possible; Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff; Notifying the GP of any significant patient issues; Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team.

About us

We have a patient population of approx. 19,500 across our main site (Larksfield) and branch site (Arlesey Medical Centre). We have anexcellent clinical and administration team with a highly skilled MDT team including GPs, nurse practitioners, clinical pharmacist, paramedic practitioners, practice nursing team and HCAs. We also have additional support from ARRS roles from the primary care network.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent qualification or experience; Relevant qualification and clinical knowledge and skills in venepuncture;

Experience

Essential

Experience of working in a healthcare setting, ideally within primary care; Ability to record accurate clinical notes; Consistently confidential, compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues; Ability to communicate effectively, and to understand the needs of the patient; Strength in problem-solving, with the ability to process information accurately and effectively, interpreting data as required; Flexibility and an adaptable approach; Commitment to ongoing professional development.
