Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed term part time therapist post with Shropshire Community Perinatal Team. You will be an experienced and accredited Psychological Therapist who will be part of an MDT team delivering treatment to clients with moderate to severe mental health difficulties within the perinatal period.

We are a specialist service that strives to deliver an excellent standard of care to expectant and new mothers who are experiencing severe and complex mental health problems . The team is multi-disciplinary and works directly with women and their family's providing assessment, interventions and support for pregnant women and women within the postnatal period with a range of mental health needs.

You will join a multidisciplinary team who are innovative and have a patient centred approach at the heart of their delivery. The team work with partners both within and outside of the Trust, with close links with Maternity Services, Maternal Mental Health Services, Health Visiting, NHS Talking Therapies, and other mental health services.

The PMHT covers Telford and Shropshire area. The team base is in Bridgnorth, and we use other MPFT facilities across the county. Blended working options are centred around clinical demand.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for the autonomous provision of specialist psychological therapy to women and their babies who are in receipt of specialist perinatal mental health services. To complete the following:

Complex assessments and psychological formulations of mental health. Consultation and advice to professionals across community settings. Undertake risk assessment and risk management, to include risks to the unborn child. Providing advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk management. Provide evidence based psychological interventions both individually and within a group setting. To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner. To contribute to service development projects To contribute to and facilitate MDT sessions such as Learning and Development slots. Use of research initiatives to further develop and inform the service. Proactively and successfully work with partner agencies.

Qualifications

Essential

Qualification in relevant core mental health professional training or recognized equivalent such as attainment of KSE (Knowledge, Skills & Experience) criteria of BABCP It is a condition of employment that the post-holder is registered with their core professional body - Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC etc). Recognized Post-Graduate accredited qualifications as a Psychological Therapist. Post-graduate training and accreditation in one or more psychological approaches. This needs to include CBT and/or EMDR with relevant accreditation by BABCP or EMDR Association UK.

Desirable

Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by relevant professional bodies. Additional therapy training and accreditation

Experience

Essential

Assessed experience of working as a qualified psychological therapist at a highly specialist level. Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, presenting with the full range of clinical severity across a range of care settings. Including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems. Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment. Experience of working clinically with people presenting with challenging behaviour, and/or people who have communication difficulties.

Desirable

Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision. Experience of the application of psychological therapy in different cultural contexts. Experience of Group work. Training or experience in parent-infant relational work such as Video Interaction Guidance, Circle of Security.

Skills & Knowledge

Essential

Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration. Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS. Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups. Knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex data analysis as practiced within the field of psychological care. Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health. Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by professional bodies. Ability to identify, and employ, as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.

Desirable

Well-developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies with diverse client groups Experience of assessing and treating clients psychologically within the context of multi-disciplinary care. Experience of working within a multicultural framework.
