Job overview

We are looking for an experienced Nurse or Allied Health Professional (ANP) Educator(secondment welcomed) with experience in delivering training in paediatric long term ventilation to join our Pan Thames Paediatric Long Term Ventilation (LTV) programme. 

The post-holder will support the provision of a training delivery programme for health professionals caring for CYP requiring LTV, mostly across the North Thames Paediatric Network (NTPN) which covers North London and the neighbouring Trusts in the East of England.

Effective delivery of LTV training will enable children to be cared for closer to home, and improve patient and family experience.

The post holder should be a registered health professional with either a general paediatrics or a specialty background and experience of caring for CYP with LTV. They should feel confident to provide expert clinical advice, training and education within their area of experience, and have a willingness to learn and apply their knowledge to enable this specific educational programme of education and support to be provided across the NTPN.

The post holder will be required to travel across North London and to the neighbouring Trusts in the East of England. Occasionally travel to the South Thames region may also be required. 

Main duties of the job

Deliver paediatric LTV training to increase the competence of healthcare professionals, across the NTPN Trusts managing CYP with LTV care via e-learning and face to face training.

The post-holder will work in close collaboration with the current LTV Skills Implementation lead for North Thames who works on a part-time basis. 

The ideal candidate should have experience of delivering face to face education and training.

The post holder will also assist the senior Project Manager in the programme's clinical governance processes and in the development of online educational resources and of an education strategy for the programme.

The post holder should be an expert collaborator, communicator and networker – they should be able to develop a strong and effective relationship with educators from across the Network area. They should be able to confidently secure expert speakers for educational events.

The post holder should also constantly seek stakeholder engagement from key contacts across a multi-disciplinary field of health care professionals in order to inform the evolution of the Network’s educational framework. 

They should utilise this stakeholder engagement to inform strategic discussions about the future proofing of the paediatric workforce and succession planning and should engage in relevant discussions with Health Education England (HEE), Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and AHP organisations, and when required with children and families.

The aims to to transform service delivery of paediatric LTV to reduce the time babies, children and young people on LTV spend in hospital and maximise high-quality care and time at home.

The Pan Thames paediatric LTV programme is commissioned by NHS England and is jointly managed by the South and North Thames Paediatric Operational Delivery Networks to transform service delivery of paediatric LTV (Tracheostomy and Non Invasive Ventilation) to reduce the time babies, children and young people on LTV spend in hospital and to maximise high-quality care and time at home.

Geographically, the programme covers the North Thames Paediatric Network (North London and bordering East of England Trusts), and the South Thames Paediatric Network (South London, Kent and Medway, Surrey Heartlands, Sussex).

The post holder will be asked to be in our offices based in Waterloo (St Thomas' hospital) and in Russell Square (Great Ormond Street hospital) at least two days a week, when not delivering training on site.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Work closely with the Programme team, Clinical Leads and acute multidisciplinary clinical teams across the network to ensure the effective design, delivery and sustainable implementation of LTV Skills across the NTPN. Identify training and development needs of multidisciplinary clinical teams across the network in accordance with local and national policies to develop confidence and competence of staff caring for CYP on LTV, and improve patient safety Develop resources to support the education and training for clinicians across the network. Provide motivation, mentoring and coaching to a broad range of health professionals to increase confidence and competence. Support the NTPN team in the provision of regular on line or face to face local and relevant teaching and training sessions to support the clinical work streams.  Assist in maintaining a Risk log and disseminating learning from risks/ incidents across the Pan Thames region. Assist in maintaining and developing the Education content for the Pan Thames Website for both professionals and parents/ carers. Regularly produce reports related to training and education across the network for the Programme Board, Commissioner work stream reports, network trusts etc. Facilitate the sharing of best practice both within Pan Thames and externally with local and national organisations.

Educated to degree level, and hold active professional registration ( NMC,HCPC) as allied health professional or practitioner psychologist Evidence of continuous personal, professional and academic development

Clinical knowledge of LTV/tracheostomy care with a robust understanding of the complexities of LTV/tracheostomy care. Understanding of the principles of teaching and learning and their application within the practice setting Understanding and knowledge of curriculum design and development. Knowledge of a variety of teaching methods delivered remotely or in person. Excellent time management and organisational skills Ability to analyse, evaluate and report educational and training outcomes Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal & communication skills Ability to travel across North London and to the neighbouring Trusts in the East of England
