Warrington, United Kingdom SNC-Lavalin Full time

Job Description

We are currently seeking a Principal Process Engineer to join the Decommissioning & Waste Services (DWS) market within our Nuclear & Power business. Ideally based in Northwest England although other locations UK wide can be considered.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering you will be responsible for providing Process Engineering capability to support the integrated digital design of our nuclear decommissioning and waste management projects.

Our market focuses on supporting the delivery of engineering design for enrichment and fuel manufacture, plant life extension, decommissioning, and waste handling projects across their full life cycle including commissioning and operation. We can offer our own products and technology to provide innovative solutions the accelerate the pace of change and provide resource augmentation to support our clients and partners.

We have strong capabilities in mechanical handling, machinery design & control, structural design & analysis, low voltage power distribution and are looking to establish a process engineering capability. We tackle projects that have varied engineering, nuclear and safety challenges, which requires proactive and mixed-skill delivery teams working collaboratively to deliver a high-quality solution.

We continually invest in our people, technology, working facilities and supporting resources to ensure that we strengthen and grow our current capabilities as well as develop new capabilities. This allows us to deliver projects using industry leading and innovative techniques, such as utilising our growing technology solutions and robotics capabilities and showing that our solutions work through active demonstrators.

The Role:

We are looking for someone who has experience and expertise in Process Engineering to establish, develop and maintain this capability within our Decommissioning & Waste Services market. We are wanting this capability to complement our existing & well-established core engineering disciplines (Mechanical, Civil & Structural, and Electrical, Control & Instrumentation) as well as our growing capabilities (Engineering Management, Systems Engineering, Technology Solutions, and Robotics). Responsibilities will develop as this new role grows and becomes better defined but will initially be focused on supporting winning work where Process Engineering is an aspect of the proposal(s) and supporting ongoing projects which uses resource from the supply chain or other AtkinsRéalis businesses. You will also help other discipline engineers understand what Process Engineering is, how it should be used on projects and best practise for collaborative working. This role will look to establish a new capability in the Decommissioning and Waste Services market and as such it comes with the ability to direct and grow the capability & team as is required. This will be done by working with the Head of Engineering and the Nuclear & Power Technical Community Chair. There will also be an element of discussing, planning and agreeing capability development with senior market leaders to get investment buy in and explain the tangible benefits for how we deliver our projects.

The Individual:

You will have a background in process engineering, having led teams on engineering projects with integrated multi-disciplinary delivery including mechanical, civil, electrical and control & instrumentation. You should have experience and a level of expertise in nuclear engineering design and substantiation with a good knowledge of UK and International design codes and industry regulations, and preferably be a Chartered member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), or equivalent. We are looking for someone with the ability to lead and motivate a team and demonstrate good leadership qualities. Someone who is self-motivated and able to work both independently as well as within a larger multi-discipline team. Excellent team player, able to collaborate effectively with market colleagues, other wider-business colleagues and the leadership team. You should be excited by the opportunity to take on the responsibility to establish and grow a Process Engineering capability within our Engineering group. This opportunity will require working collaboratively with colleagues within the DWS market as well as across the wider AtkinsRéalis business, allowing you to shape and influence methodologies and delivery close to home and wider.

How will you contribute to the team:

An Innovator – You will encourage people to experiment, produce new ideas and challenge others to think differently. You’ll create space for people to think about potential new innovative approaches, providing an opportunity for growth. An Improver - You spend time on making the processes, methods and toolsets more efficient, optimising your resources and adjusting things to be leaner. Comprehensive understanding of supporting design disciplines such as Nuclear Safety Engineering, Environmental, Human Factors, Sustainability and Net Zero Carbon. Fully integrated with counterparts in other parts of the business and active in identifying cross-application of skills. Proactive at identifying and implementing improvements and cross-business learning. Excellent team player, able to collaborate effectively with market colleagues, wider business colleagues and the senior leadership team.
