Job summary

Band 4 Therapy Assistant Practitioner - Cancer Prehabilitation / Rehabilitation - 7 months fixed term contract (likely to be extended)

Funded by the South Yorkshire cancer Alliance, this unique post is an amazing opportunity for the right candidate to make a difference to the people of Doncaster and Bassetlaw receiving vital Cancer treatments / surgery, working specifically in the field of Prehabilitation.

Prehabilitation is a multimodal approach supporting people to prepare for vital cancer treatments enabling enhanced recovery with fewer complications with better long term health and well-being. This exciting new field promotes healthy behaviours through the prescription of exercise, nutrition and psychological interventions.

The successful applicant will be supported by senior allied health professionals within the organisation and will receive regular clinical supervision. There will also be an opportunity to develop knowledge and skills specific to cancer Prehabilitation through regional networking, internal training, and external courses.

Further peer support and guidance will also be provided though the regional cancer Prehabilitation network that have regular meetings to discuss a range of topics specific to cancer Prehabilitation.

This post will link with the cancer pathways in Doncaster and Bassetlaw. A service that is recognised for its innovative approaches to patient care and progressive thinking.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be an experienced therapy assistant or at least a level 3 fitness instructor who can demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with the prehab team, other members of the MDT & wider partner organisations.

Broad experience of working as a Band 3 AHP assistant or as an exercise specialist (level 4) Experience of carrying out a range of assessments and delivering interventions independently Recent experience of working as part of a team, with an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the members of the team

Desirable

Experience working with patients effected by cancer Involved in Service development projects / scoping projects Experience in delivering patient education and exercise groups

Qualification / Training

Essential

NVQ level 3 in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Support (or Care with relevant Physiotherapy Units)/Allied Health Professionals (Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy) or NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or other relevant health, fitness and/or social care qualification IT skills - including proficiency in word and excel
