Job summary

The post is suitable for patient-focused technician with good interpersonal skills who are sensitive to the needs of the patients and their carers. You would require excellent communication and team working skills. Able to work independently and be flexible to adapt to the changing service demands meeting any set deadlines. The role is embedded in the ward teams by supporting our nursing/medical and pharmacy teams to resolve any medicines management issues.

You will be responsible for providing a safe, efficient and accurate ward-based pharmacy service for hospital inpatients by liaising closely with pharmacists, nursing and medical staff on wards.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for providing a safe, efficient and accurate ward-based pharmacy service by liaising closely with pharmacists, nursing and medical staff. This role will help you to develop Medicines Optimisation and Patient Counselling skills.

You will also be required to support the Inpatient pharmacy service as an ACPT weekly on a rostered basis. Therefore, a systematic and flexible approach to working is an essential requirement.

Job description

Job responsibilities

You will work in a structured environment providing support to the wider team to meet key directorates targets. This will include delivering pharmacy services to a range of patients with complex Surgical, Oncology and Haematology conditions, supporting and training junior staff.

Candidates should have demonstrable competencies in hospital clinical pharmacy practice, excellent communication skills and commitment to pharmaceutical care. Furthermore, candidates should be highly organised.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

GPhC accredited integrated, or linked, knowledge and competence qualification(s) that allow registration in the UK as a pharmacy technician Completion if the accreditied checking pharmacy technician scheme (ACPT)

Desirable

A1 Workplace Assessors award OR practice supervisor certificate OR working towards Medicine Management Accreditation or equivalent London Pharmacy Education and Training- Technician Self Development Programme- Stage 2 or equivalent

Previous Experience

Essential

Have worked in Pharmacy dispensary Have worked in a Hospital pharmacy dispensary Have worked in a role with medicines management responsibilities Previous experience of delivering induction and competency based training Previous experience of delivering induction and competency based training Previous experience of supervising staff and workload on a day-to-day basis Previous evaluated experience of participation in project and audit work

Desirable

Demonstrated experience of ability to appraise staff and set performance objectives Previous evaluated experience of recruitment and selection of staff
