An exciting opportunity has risen for a highly motivated and driven individual to join our Programmed Investigation Unit (PIU) team providing excellent, safe patient care within our multi-speciality services which includes the; Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Gastroenterology, Immunology, Neurology.

We are looking to appoint an experienced nurse with a background knowledge in endocrine, Biologic infusions, acute medicine or Emergency Ambulatory care nursing and someone who is compassionate, enthusiastic, inspirational nurse who is willing to work as part of a multidisciplinary team at our PIU–Denmark hill site King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
You will be supported with training and supervision to develop your skills and knowledge. 

PIU is a Nurse-led service, we are committed in the management of patients undergoing various endocrine dynamic tests and treatments and patients who are receiving various biologic IV infusions.
The successful post holder will be a highly motivated nurse and will play a key role in developing the PIU day unit service. You must be registered with the NMC with proven experience at Band 5.

You must be able to demonstrate that you have completed or have interest/working towards:

• Cannulation, venepuncture, intravenous therapy and an ability to carry out holistic needs assessment.
• Advanced Health assessment course
• Chemotherapy course or qualification

Main duties of the job

• To support the PIU service including with the administrations of IV Biologic infusions
• To assist in the delivery of nursing care for patients under the care of endocrinology, rheumatology, immunology, gastroenterology, neurology
• To assist in managing the PIU case load
• To provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients, their families and professionals following diagnosis and treatment.
• To instigate and order biochemical blood investigations, and recognise abnormal results.
• To ensure continuity of a high standard of evidence based nursing care, assessing health, health related and nursing needs of patients, their families and other carers
• To be actively involved in assessing the short-term needs of the clinical area and ensures that they are met. Will seek advice and support from outside the clinical area.
• To assist in the delivery of a seamless service through Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) processes and communication
• To ensure all care is given in accordance with agreed protocols.
• To follow-up patients under supervision as appropriate and ensure all relevant information is available to enable patients to make an informed choice about their treatment
• To be proficient in discharging patients under nurse led protocols
• To actively involve service users in providing feedback of their experience of the current service and suggestions for improvements.
