We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Staff Nurse to join our Special Schools team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to children with complex health needs.
Main Duties of the Job
As a Senior Staff Nurse, you will be responsible for:
- Developing and implementing individualized care plans for children with complex health needs
- Providing expert clinical guidance and support to junior staff members
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless care delivery
- Leading by example and promoting a culture of excellence and professionalism
- Staying up-to-date with the latest clinical guidelines and best practices

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
General Duties
- Develop and implement integrated working practices to improve service delivery options and outcomes for children and families
- Ensure all staff work to Trust policies, procedures, and guidelines, and contribute to policy or service changes as needed
- Work collaboratively with education, health, and social care staff to support and empower children and families
- Delegate tasks effectively to ensure consistent coordinated care
- Act as a specialist practitioner and resource to other staff within the department and wider organisation
- Lead by example and maintain a high level of professional conduct at all times
Clinical Responsibilities
- Be confident and competent in carrying out clinical skills such as administering medicines and gastrostomy feeds
- Support the lead clinician for the children's continence service
- Perform effective assessments and plan care according to individual health needs
- Review care plans regularly and make onward referrals as needed
- Attend safeguarding supervision and represent the school nursing team in educational settings
Management Responsibilities/Professional Leadership
- Ensure team compliance with service delivery according to the commissioned service specification
- Support the Team Leader and senior children's services managers to monitor staffing budgets
- Ensure staff comply with data collection and recording in electronic records
- Receive and handle complaints according to Trust policy
- Work collaboratively with the risk management department to identify and manage risks
Education, Training, and Personal Development
- Develop and implement local orientation and induction programs for new employees
- Ensure compliance with statutory and mandatory training
- Work with the Team Leader and senior children's services managers to ensure staff competence and confidence in clinical skills
- Ensure staff participate in reflective practice to improve problem-solving strategies
Working Relationships/Communication
- Develop and maintain highly professional relationships with education teams in special needs schools
- Maintain good communication with children, families, staff, and other professionals
- Handle sensitive information and act tactfully in situations with conflicts of interest
Financial Responsibility/Service Delivery
- Be responsible for issuing children's continence products within budget
- Support the Team Leader and senior children's services managers to monitor staffing budgets
