Job summary

We are looking for a motivated, organised and reliable individual to support the therapists on the busy in-patient adult orthopaedic unit at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore.

Main duties of the job

The role is a varied and interesting one and in any given day you could be:

Managing routine pre-admission information from patients either written or verbal to inform appropriate intervention. Assisting in identifying and problem-solving patients' requirements for adaptive equipment and devices, including the production and adaptation of such devices as appropriate. Delivering aspects of therapy intervention with patients undergoing routine surgeries, including the issue of adaptive equipment / mobility aids and techniques for managing activities of daily living. To be involved in delivering rehabilitation programmes to patients admitted for planned rehabilitation, as guided by the qualified Therapists. Assisting patients to follow exercise programmes designed by physiotherapists Ensuring that stock is maintained and equipment is clean and safe Liaising with other members of the multidisciplinary team and external agencies regarding patient needs and progress, including sending referrals, discharge reports on behalf of the therapist and confirming receipt and action with the community agencies. Delivering patient -education MDT sessions such as Joint School.

About us

You will be working as part of integrated Therapy team on the ward and will be supported with regular supervision from experienced staff. We also offer competency training for the role.

Please note we are providing a 7 day service so you will be required to work weekends on a rota system. Applicants must be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, relatives and staff, as well as a good standard of written English. Ideally, you will have previous experience of working with people with a disability but appropriate training will be provided. An understanding of the role of an Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist is essential.

To be successful in this role you must be physically fit as the post involves moving and handling of patients and equipment and a lot of walking between the wards.

Basic written and spoken English. Basic numeracy. Educated to secondary school level or equivalent GCSE in English and Mathematics.
