As Trust Secretary, you'll provide expert committee secretariat and governance support, combining strong technical knowledge with sound judgment in complex situations. You'll also lead Trust-wide risk management efforts, guiding executive and hospital site management teams to establish robust corporate governance arrangements.

Main duties of the job

·Advise and support the Chief Executive and Chair on governance matters.

·Manage Board, sub-committee, and senior management team meetings, ensuring smooth operation and effectiveness.

·Implement development programs for the Board of Directors to enhance their skills and knowledge.

·Lead the Corporate Governance agenda, ensuring compliance with legal, constitutional, and regulatory requirements and best practices.

·Manage registration and reporting requirements with regulatory bodies.

·Oversee insurance matters to ensure adequate coverage for the Trust.

·Ensure Trust Board compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and the Code of Governance.

·Develop relationships with senior staff, regulators, the public, and external stakeholders.

·Foster a culture of high performance by building strong relationships across the Board.

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a large acute hospital Trust in the county of Kent.

The Trust provides a full range of general hospital services and some areas of specialist complex care to around 760,000 people living in the south part of West Kent and the north part of East Sussex.

The Trust’s core catchment areas are Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and their surrounding boroughs. We work from two main clinical sites: Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury. Tunbridge Wells Hospital opened in 2011 and provides single rooms with en-suites for all in-patients – the first of its kind in the country.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

Educated to at least masters level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior management level in specialist area Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) qualified or equivalent qualification Extensive knowledge of specialist areas, acquired through post graduate diploma or equivalent experience or training plus further specialist knowledge or experience to master’s level equivalent

Essential criteria

Demonstrable experience of working at a senior management level over a long period of time within portfolio area In-depth experience in a senior corporate governance role. Experience and knowledge of regulatory matters, NHS compliance and corporate governance. Extensive experience of Board and Committee administration - proficient at minute-taking Able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge/understanding of corporate and governance conduct principles, legislation and best practice and able to evidence application of this knowledge in a complex organisation Able to evidence application of advanced organisational management skills and delivery of complex organisational tasks Experience of identifying and interpreting National policy. Experience of researching best practice (private, and public sector), interpreting its relevance and processes / practices which could be implemented successfully to achieve system improvement (advising on policy implementation)

Implementation and management of governance frameworks Experience of advising and working directly with the Chief Executive and the Chair An understanding of the relationship between the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), NHS England and individual provider and commissioning organisations

Highly developed communication skills with the ability to communicate on highly complex matters and difficult situations Ability to provide and receive, convey and present highly complex, sensitive and/or contentious information to large groups, responding openly to questions to ensure full understanding and engagement Ability to communicate with clinical, academic and all levels of staff effectively High level analytical skills and the ability to draw qualitative and quantitative data from a wide range of sources and present in a clear concise manner
