Job summary

You will deliver safequality care for patients during their perioperative phase of care To supportand assist in the management and organisation of care provision within theOperating Theatre. You will promote good working relationships and collaborative workingwith the multi-disciplinary team, both within the department and the rest ofIHG. You shall apply and promote bestevidence-based practice within own scope of practice. Act as an effective rolemodel by developing and demonstrating effective organisational and leadershipskills. You will contribute to service improvements and act in a manner in keepingwith your relevant code of conduct and IHG values.

Main duties of the job

Deliver high quality patient care, in line with IHG policy andprocedures to patients during the perioperative phase.

Ensure patient safety by followingWHO surgical safety guidelines.

Demonstrate competence and flexibility as a Theatre Practitioner,scrub, admissions, discharge, and recovery.

Be responsible for and participate in the co-ordination of theatrelist ensuring effective start and finish times.

Ability to perform a range of circulating duties, treatingpatients with dignity and respect.

Ensure preparation of theatre and required equipment for theoperating list is undertaken effectively, to prevent delays or cancellations.

Ensure effective cleaning of the theatre suite and safe handlingof surgical equipment.

Contribute to quality improvement and audit, raising incidents andconcerns.

Contribute to the effective management of resources.

Demonstrate competence with current emergency resuscitationtechniques to ILS level.

Demonstrate safe handling of all waste management, adhering to IHGpolicies and guidelines.

Manage own mandatory training compliance on e-lfh system.

Ensure compliance with IPC standards, policy, and procedure at alltimes.

Communicate effectively and support patients, during LocalAnaesthetic procedures.

Recognise the deteriorating patient using the NEWS2 score toassess the patient escalating concerns effectively.

Provide post-operative advice and support to patients.

Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records includingcomputerised records using the Patient Administration System.

Continuous development

Takeresponsibility for identifying own learning and professional development needs.

Maintainsand improves own professional knowledge and competence.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team. Scrubbing for day-case procedures (including hernia, podiatry, vasectomy, cataract, and carpal tunnel surgery) Operating within clinical governance and risk management frameworks. Anaesthetic or recovery experience.

Qualifications

Essential

Degree in relevant field, or equivalent experience RGN, ODP registered. Evidence of continuous professional development

Understands the importance of delivering high quality clinical care and the factors that influence it. Able to communicate effectively with patients from different backgrounds with differing levels of understanding. Able to present written and verbal information clearly and concisely.
