Job summary

As a result of restructuring, there is an exciting opportunity for someone to join the EAT Service. The post is a WTE positionThe successful applicant will be directly supporting pts in the community with the delivery of Electronic Assistive Technology services to children and adults with severe and complex communication needs using high tech Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC). The post holder will work across a range of community and health settings, accessing the supervision of a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist as duties will consist of direct work with patients and clinically related clerical activities as delegated including programming of high tech AAC.

Main duties of the job

The Electronic Assistive Technology Service , provides services nationally to the population of Wales. The post-holder will be expected to cover north Wales with occasional visits (for the purposes of meetings and training) to the south Wales area. The post holder will apply their knowledge of communication skills when undertaking sessions with children and adults. The post holder will be reviewing children and adults' use of communication aids, carrying out training and support with basic editing of high-tech devices and undertaking patient reported outcome measures with the patients and/or carers.

The post holder will collate information and contribute to the completion of client case histories and new assessments

The post holder will prepare and develop AAC systems as directed by the Speech and Language Therapist.

The post holder will provide advice to carers and families to assist in improving the communication skills of the patient/client including the use of the prescribed AAC systems.

The post holder will assist the Speech and Language Therapist in the delivery of sessions and deliver work independently.

Provide feedback on intervention, client level and pattern of progress.

Offer support and advice regarding practical complex needs and strategies to promote communication skills to carers and families

The post holder will undertake PIADS measurements to monitor the effect that the Service has had on the patient's lives.
