We are pleased to announce that a one year temporary opportunity has become available for a Registered Nurse to work in Gynaecology Assessment Unit (GAU) working 28 hours a week. This position is to cover maternity leave.

GAU is situated on the Pinderfields site and provides a 7 day service for acute gynaecology patients and patients experiencing problems in early pregnancy. As a Registered working on GAU the successful candidate will be working within the nursing team and closely with the on call gynaecology medical team.

Main duties of the job

Theprimary aim of the role of registered nurse in GAU is to provide effective patient centred care byperforming individual assessment of care needs, developing, implementing andevaluating programmes of care that meet the needs of the patient and theirfamilies/carers. The role ismultidimensional and requires the post holder to integrate and fulfil all theidentified dimensions. As a registerednurse all activities provide opportunities for acting as a role model forstaff.

Following their preceptorshipperiod the registered nurse is expected to carry out all relevant forms of carewithout direct supervision.

The registered nurse on GAU once competent will see and assess individual patients, obtaining clinical history and reason for attending the department. They will request investigations by following a clear pathway of care and interpretation of the results, seeking advice, and if required, patient review by the medical team on call.

Assisting in examination and treatments by acting as a chaperone and support for both patient and clinician. Preparing a patient for transfer to an inpatient unit or to theatre or preparing them for discharge home with the appropriate follow up in place if needed.

Supporting patients who have experienced early pregnancy loss, giving appropriate advice and sign posts to where they may obtain ongoing support.

Perform venepuncture and cannulation when required.

Contribute to patient call line offering support, advice or appointments is required.
