Bookeeper / Legal Cashier

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping for the firm, including client and office accounts, ensuring compliance with SRA Accounts Rules.
- Process financial transactions such as payments, receipts, transfers, and reconciliations.
- Oversee the preparation of VAT returns and ensure timely submission to HMRC.
- Reconcile bank accounts on a regular basis and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Process client invoices, accounts payable/receivable, and monitor credit control.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for clients and the firm, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
- Assist with payroll processing, ensuring timely and accurate payment to staff.
- Liaise with solicitors and other team members to resolve any financial queries.
- Support with internal and external audits as required.
- Prepare monthly and year-end financial reports for management.
Requirements
Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or Legal Cashier within a law firm or legal services environment.
- Strong knowledge of SRA Accounts Rules and legal financial compliance.
- Proficiency in legal accounting software (such as LEAP or similar) and general accounting software (e.g., Xero, Sage).
- Solid understanding of VAT rules, especially within the legal sector.
- High level of attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively.
- A proactive and problem-solving mindset.
Preferred:
- AAT, ACCA, or equivalent bookkeeping/accountancy qualification.
- Previous experience working within a legal firm in a similar role.
