The Salford Mental Health Liaison Team (MHLT) have an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to join our service as the Senior Practitioner for Children & Young People. You will join an established, PLAN-accredited team of professionals working to deliver the highest levels of care to people of all ages presenting to Salford Royal Hospital with a suspected or actual mental health need, leading on care and improving outcomes for our young people presenting to A&E.
With the implementation of the ever-evolving crisis care pathway for young people across Greater Manchester, it is an exciting time to join a multi-agency system all working together with a shared vision to improve the care and outcomes for our young people.

Main duties of the job
Provide specialist CYP clinical leadership, supervision, support, and consultation to the MDT in the MHLS team, in line with relevant clinical pathways, as outlined within the operational procedures and relevant service specification.
Be expected to take a lead on developing and maintaining robust holistic care pathways into wider Children and Young People's services, from the general hospital. Lead on the development of the MDT knowledge and skills set around the assessment and response to the needs of Children and Young People. Provide assessment and direct patient interventions for Children and Young People, focusing on relapse prevention, early discharge, and improved quality of life for patients referred to the service.In addition, the post holder would be required to:
Be able to provide a service to people of all ages within the hospital wards and A&E, assessing individuals with a range of complex needs, such as organic and functional illness, this would include dementia and a range of illnesses associated with people from later life. In addition, there will be a requirement to assess individuals with learning disabilities.

To provide comprehensive assessments to plan and identify the mental health needs of the patients referred to the service and to follow up. This would primarily be for Children and Young People however this is not exclusive.
To have an in-depth understanding of the range of mental health conditions and presentations that Children and Young People may experience.
To provide clinical leadership to all MHLS team members, with particular focus on provision of care to Children and Young People who may be referred to the team.
To demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the clinical pathways relating to Children & Young People in Greater Manchester.
To have current knowledge of a range of clinical pathways and liaison protocols relating to wider patient groups, including those relating dementia, substance misuse, self-harm and functional mental illness.
To have the knowledge of alternative treatment options for Children and Young People.
To be able to make decisions, particularly in reference to referring patients on to other services, admitting for treatment and discharging patients.
Be able to effectively support non mental health colleagues from a range of disciplines.
To utilise highly developed interpersonal skills to facilitate effective communication when there are barriers to understanding or in a hostile, antagonistic or highly emotive situation.
To establish and maintain robust communication networks with clients, carers, team members, other health care and social care workers and external agencies.

Education & Qualifications
Essential
Registered Social Worker, RMN or Occupational Therapist, with current registration with relevant body (NMC, HCPC, SW England)
Desirable
Professional Degree CAMHS-specific post-registration qualification
Experience
Essential
Have recent experience of working within a CYP service that provided emergency or urgent response and assessment to Children and Young People. Have experience in leading on and managing complex Children and Young person's mental health presentations Prior clinical leadership and service development experience. Have a broad range of experience which may include dementia care, acute care, supporting people who self-harm and misuse substances
Desirable
Have experience of working within liaison services/assessment within A&E Department /General Hospital Have experience of working within the GM escalation framework
Knowledge
Essential
Have knowledge of the background, range of services and evidence base of both Liaison Psychiatry and CYP services Have sound knowledge of the National and Local agendas for Children and Young People's services and how this will interface with liaison services in the future. Have excellent knowledge of best practice and clinical guidelines primarily in relation to the Children and Young People's mental health care, together with a good level of knowledge around self-harm, substance misuse, dementia, and severe and enduring mental illness.
Desirable
Have a sound knowledge of The Children Act 1989 (2004), particularly in relation to Children & Young People subject to care proceedings.

Be competent in the area of risk assessment and formulation of risk management plans including supporting patients who self-harm or are in a neglectful state Be able to undertake a complex formulation and discharge plans, primarily for Children & Young people, but also for a wide range of people including those with dementia, functional illnesses, self-harm and substance misuse Be able to liaise effectively and communicate complex information to a range of other disciplines, agencies and carers.-
