Applications areinvited for the post of LOCUM Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to coverfor Parental leave.

We are looking for an enthusiasticcolleague with a flexible approach to provide an efficient service forpatients, women who attend the Obstetrics and Gynaecology departments inSunderland Royal Hospital and South Tyneside District Hospital.

Applicants must be a holder ofMRCOG, be eligible for the GMC Specialist Register in Obstetrics andGynaecology within six months of the time of interview.

Workon a 1:15 rota covering both Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Coversessions including medium risk ANC, GOPD, Caesarean section lists, Daycase Theatre,

Labourward is covered with a hot week rotation when the same consultant covers Mondayto Friday 8:30-18:00 every day

Weekends are split Friday / Sunday andSaturday

Main duties of the job

Applicants must also have excellent organizational and communicationskills, be a good team worker and have experience in training undergraduatesand postgraduates. Direct involvement in delivery of NIHR portfolio clinicalresearch trials is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will be encouraged todevelop other special interests based on service requirements.

The successful candidate will be expected to workas a team member to deliver the service contract and to contribute towardsstrategic planning and development within the Directorate

The Directorate has a proud record of deliveringthe contract within budget and aims to maintain this position. The post-holder will be professionallyresponsible for their particular patient workload but will also be responsiblefor colleagues patients while carrying out on-call work.

Qualifications

Essential

Full GMC registration MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification Relevant CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC) Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC ATSM advanced Labour ward or equivalent experience

Desirable

Further Higher Degree, MD or PhD

Experience

Essential

Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT, including ability to provide delivery suite cover and intrapartum care. Ability to offer expert opinion on a wide range of emergency / routine cases in obstetrics and gynaecology. Interest in Clinical Governance and Risk Management. Understanding of the NHS, Clinical Governance process and resource issues. Evidence of organisational, administrative, management and time management skills. Previous record of organisational achievement. IT literacy skills. Experience of supervising junior medical staff. Experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Evidence of commitment to teaching.

Desirable

Experience in delivering training and education in general Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Evidence of management and administration experience. Management course and / or certificate. Qualification in medical education.

Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical practice. Involvement in quality and/or service improvement measures. Ability to undertake multi-disciplinary audit. Demonstrate ability to undertake audit in specialty area. Good presentation skills. Completed GCP training and been involved in NIHR portfolio clinical research.

Desirable

Undertaken research with published papers in refereed journals. Involvement in relevant laboratory-based research. Experience in non-NIHR clinical research.
