We are looking for a proactive payroll professional to join our wider finance team with a passion for digital innovation, leadership and compliance who can ensure the seamless operation of our payroll function. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with senior stakeholders across various functions, grades, and locations, driving change and delivering exceptional service across the business.
Reporting into Director, Finance key responsibilities include:
- Lead, coach, and develop the payroll team, setting clear performance plans, KPIs, and fostering a service-focused culture.
- Take ownership of payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery, while utilising digital tools (Service Now) to enhance efficiency.
- Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders across HR, Reward, Finance, and external contractors to ensure payroll alignment and resolve complex queries.
- Champion the use of digital services, working with senior leadership to identify opportunities for automation, process improvements, and enhanced user experience.
- Maintain compliance with HMRC regulations, internal policies, and industry best practices, ensuring all processes are documented and transparent.
- Oversee the Travel & Expenses system, providing proactive training and support to colleagues at all levels.
- Lead payroll-related audits, ensuring the team’s involvement and upholding confidentiality and data security.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimise payroll systems and ensure alignment with business goals.
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven experience in payroll management with strong leadership skills and the ability to manage a team.
- Expertise in digital payroll systems and a focus on enhancing the user experience through technology.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with senior stakeholders across multiple functions and grades, influencing and driving change.
- Exceptional attention to detail with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear and actionable insights to both senior leadership and operational teams.
If you're ready to lead in a digital-first environment, innovate payroll processes, and work with senior stakeholders across the business, we’d love to hear from you
What’s in it for you?
Although we do encourage you to taste the goods you’ll be pleased to know we don’t pay you in chips. For working hard, you’ll also get a great salary and some pretty good benefits including:
- An achievable yearly bonus based on personal performance.
- An excellent pension where we will pay double what you do, up to a maximum of 12% of your pay
- Flexible holidays – where you can buy & sell up to 5 days holiday per year
- Optional health cash plan
- Cycle to work scheme
- ‘Chips In’ Volunteering Day Off - to make a positive impact to the competitiveness, resilience, and long-term development of McCain communities across the globe
And of course, being part of a Global business there are great opportunities to shine/thrive should you wish to relocate in the future. We have an ambitious 5 year growth plan that presents development & progression opportunities for those who seek it out.
Where you will work?
Being in the office every single day is a thing of the past. Here at McCain, we champion hybrid working. This means we don’t have a set expectation of exactly when you need to be in the office – however we do encourage our full-time, office-based people to connect in person with others for around half of their working time as that’s the best way for us to build and maintain our connections. Our head office (Customer Experience Centre) is on the outskirts of Scarborough – 1.5 hours away from Leeds City Centre, and about an hour from York. We have lots of colleagues who travel to and from our Experience Centre (even if it is just for a good coffee) and because hybrid really does mean hybrid at McCain, they get the opportunity to collaborate with their colleagues when they’re in the office, and balance that with working from home to ensure they get a good life-work balance.
