Job Overview

As a Behavior Mentor within our primary school in Beeston, Nottingham, you will play a crucial role in supporting the social, emotional, and behavioral development of students. Your primary focus will be on promoting positive behavior, fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment, and providing targeted support to students facing behavioral challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Behavioral Support:

    • Work closely with teachers, parents, and other school staff to identify students with behavioral challenges.
    • Develop and implement behavior support plans tailored to individual student needs.
    • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students to address specific behavioral concerns.
  2. Classroom Assistance:

    • Collaborate with teachers to maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
    • Assist in the implementation of behavior management strategies within the classroom setting.
    • Support the teacher in delivering social and emotional learning activities.
  3. Intervention and Crisis Management:

    • Intervene in challenging situations to de-escalate conflicts and ensure the safety of students and staff.
    • Implement crisis management techniques when necessary, following school protocols.
  4. Monitoring and Evaluation:

    • Regularly monitor and assess the effectiveness of behavior support plans.
    • Collect and analyze data related to student behavior to inform decision-making.
    • Provide feedback to teachers and parents on the progress of students in the behavior support program.
  5. Collaboration and Communication:

    • Collaborate with the school's Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) and other relevant staff members.
    • Maintain open and effective communication with parents and caregivers regarding the progress of students.
  6. Professional Development:

    • Stay informed about current best practices in behavior management and intervention strategies.
    • Attend relevant training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Level 3 or Equivalent Teaching Assistant qualfication
  • Previous experience working with primary school-aged children in a behavioral support capacity.
  • Understanding of behavior management techniques and strategies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, or a related field is desirable.
