The role is based at the hospice down Chamberlain Road.
Under the leadership of the Senior Nursing Staff, be responsible for overseeing the nursing care of an identified group of patients.
You will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care, documenting all relevant information accurately and legibly.
You will ensure that a patients holistic needs are met in a person centred way.

Job responsibilities
Communicate appropriately with patients, their carers and relatives and other visitors to the unit.
Communicate appropriately with all staff, liaise with other departments and agencies and attend internal and external meetings as appropriate.
Ensure the Dove House Hospices policies relating to the security, control and administration of drugs, are adhered to in line with NMC guidance.
Regularly take charge of the Inpatient Unit and act as Emergency Duty Officer as requested.
In the absence of senior staff, lead the nursing team and co-ordinate in-patient activity and communications for the duration of a shift.
Participate in the selection and recruitment of volunteers as requested.
Participate and carry out supervision for junior or less experienced members of the team, as requested by the Sister / Charge Nurse.
Participate in the induction of new staff, both paid and unpaid to the Inpatient Unit and Day Therapy Unit
Be aware of the professional needs of the junior staff in the team and contribute to their professional development which may involve delivering internal training.
Be prepared to share skills and knowledge with other members of the team, which may involve being a link nurse.
Coordinate the supervision and support of volunteers working on the Inpatient Unit and Day Therapy.
Participate in supervision and appraisal from an identified senior nurse.
Act as a clinical supervisor to less experienced members of the team, ensuring this is undertaken in line with hospice policy.
In conjunction with the sister/charge nurse and the People and Development Department, attend statutory training as required and be responsible for own professional development in line with NMC requirements.
Participate in Dove House Hospice clinical governance arrangements, attend relevant meetings as required and participate in audits as requested by the sister/charge nurse.
Work in other areas of patient care as required, subject to the needs of the service,
Maintain confidentiality and comply with all aspects of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and all Dove House Hospice policies and procedures.
Report and record any complaints from patients, visitors and staff reporting them to the sister/senior sister.
During out of hours periods, refer to the senior nurse on call for advice and guidance with regard to nursing matters and issues affecting the Inpatient Unit.
During out of hours, follow the on call procedures in order to alert relevant staff support.
In conjunction with the People and Development Department, coordinate the recruitment and selection of volunteers working on the Inpatient Unit and Day Therapy Unit.
Undertake any other relevant duties as requested by the Sister / Charge Nurse.

Registered Nurse Level 1. Current NMC registration.
Experience
Essential
Relevant experience of working at a D Grade/staff nurse level. Relevant experience working in a palliative care setting or related speciality which cares for people at the end of life.-
