Job summary

We are currently looking for a proactive Deputy Ward Manager, who will join our team at The Cavell Centre. If you are looking for a dynamic role where you are able to showcase your high level of patient care and staff management, this is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate your skills.

The ideal candidate will have commitment to teamwork, a sense of accountability, plus an ability to work under pressure. The post holder will provide quality, evidence-based nursing advice, support and care for service users with mental and physical health needs and to their carers within a multidisciplinary setting.

You will be responsible for leading on the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care on night shifts, and will have a good level of knowledge of local, national policies and legislation which govern current service provision.

The post holder will be responsible for identifying and contributing to the training needs of junior registered and unregistered staff and ensure that issues of equality, diversity and rights are dealt with in accordance with good practice and legislation.

You will ensure that effective communication pathways exist, and act within your sphere of responsibility, leading the shift in the absence of the Clinical Nurse Specialist, Ward Manager or the designated deputy.

Main duties of the job

Our adult mental health inpatient ward 3-3-3 model is an innovative redesign of acute mental health inpatient care. Time-limited inpatient pathways for assessment (#3 days), treatment (#3 weeks), and recovery (#3 months) replace traditional acute wards.

Poplar Ward is our Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit that sits alongside the wards operating the 3-3-3 model, working closely with these wards to provide a safe and effective service. Poplar ward is a six-bedded, male-only PICU sited in Peterborough but serving the whole county and working with all CPFT inpatient wards in Peterborough and at Fulbourn.

Our focus is on providing care which is structured, planned and meaningful in an environment which allows patients to be supported by a range of staff, whose main goal is to empower and involve patients and their loved ones in our care.

To be responsible for supervising the role of the named nurses in relation to care planning within the clinical area. To be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the evidence based care required, including health promotion for a named service user/group ensuring it meets Trust timescales. To participate in the setting of quality standards, including the monitoring and reviewing in line with current clinical guidance practice and policy. Utilising the data available such as learning from incidences and complaints. To ensure the post holder understands and meets their professional role and responsibilities under the Care Programme Approach. To ensure that the requirements of the Mental Health Act 2007 are observed, adhered to and implemented. To be responsible for the promotion of carer and service user involvement within the service and for its provision. To encourage recovery, discovery and independence, taking into account risk assessment and management. To be responsible for establishing therapeutic relationships with service users, and the implementation of evidence based therapeutic interventions with appropriate boundaries in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Councils professional code of conduct. To ensure the provision of social/therapeutic activities for service users. To be responsible for the safe custody and administration of medicines inaccordance with all medicine policies and ensure compliance is maintained. To respect and value the different therapeutic approaches within the multidisciplinary team but ensure that the agreed philosophy approach is adopted and followed. Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential

Registered Nurse Mental Health (RNMH) or other specialism relating to post such as Registered Nurse Learning Disability (RNLD) or Registered Nurse Children's (RNC) Mentor qualification / ENB 998 or equivalent

Desirable

Additional qualification for specialism Post graduate qualification related to ward specialism

Experience

Essential

Basic training in the Mental Capacity Act Experience of supervising staff Experience of inpatient services and working as part of a multidisciplinary team Experience of dealing with service users with complex mental health needs

Experience of developing service user and carer involvement

Skills & Abilities
