Mortimer West End UK, Reading, United Kingdom Amegreen Children's Services Full time

Are you looking for a new challenge, where you can be an integral part of supporting the development of children and young people that are currently not accessing mainstream school?

An exciting and rewarding opportunity has become available to manage and lead on the delivery of our forest provision, referred to as ‘The Paddock’.

About Amegreen Children’s Services:

Amegreen Children’s Services is an established and respected provider of residential children’s homes having been established in 2013. Our independent children’s homes are rated as Outstanding by Ofsted and provide therapeutic care to children between the ages of 5 and 18 who are unable to live with their families.

Stable Futures is owned by Amegreen Children's Services. Our alternative provision offers equine, outdoor learning, therapy and alternative education packages. We provide a safe and therapeutic space for children to recover from difficult, and often traumatic life experiences. A space where they are able to process emotions, rebuild their view of the world and make connections to others.

Our aim and objectives at Stable Futures is to deliver a bespoke education program which supports each child to have opportunities to progress, learn and reflect. Our services include time with the horses and other livestock, forest and bushcraft, life and independence skills, activities to build confidence and self-esteem, mainstream English and Math’s skills and hands-on outside activities.

Overview:

The Bushcraft & Forest lead is a great opportunity to hand down skills to children who are struggling to access mainstream school and are in need of practical skills when it comes to their learning. Our forest provision, referred to as ‘The Paddock’, is set only a short drive away from our main farm site, embedded within the Englefield Estate woodland, offering a magical space to capture young people’s curiosity for learning.

The right candidate will work with the current forest learning mentor, to develop and deliver sessions to children ages 6–17years. This requires the ability to bespoke your approach and content to suit varying age groups.

It is essential that you are able to utilise the great outdoors and transfer skills such as-

Survival skills, outdoor education, archery, arts and crafts plus more..

Alongside developing creative alternative outdoor lessons plans for children that are referred to Stable Futures by Schools or local authorities, part of the Forest and Bushcraft lead role, you will be liaising and working closely with the local Haywards Farm School, who utilise the space and come for sessions within the paddock two days per week. This is an opportunity for collaborative work within the company of Amegreen Children's Services, making sure that our staff are working holistically, offering clear communication with management and sharing new ideas for creative curriculum enhancing sessions.

The Role

  • Creating exciting and varied lesson plans for outdoor learning, which is bespoke to the children and young people that access Stable futures.
  • Supporting team members to create different activities that include outdoor activities utilising the space.
  • Being responsible for the oversight and running of the forest provision.
  • Site paperwork that includes daily health and safety checks, fire reports, risk assessments for activities and site.
  • Ordering resources for sessions throughout each term, managing a budget.
  • Writing daily trackers for each young person in attendance to track progress, which is then distributed each Friday afternoon.
  • Working within safeguarding processes and procedures. The site lead will be required to train as a DDSL and work closely with the centre manager/ DSL on all safeguarding reports.
  • Organise new learning programmes involving planning and meeting with stakeholders (learners, parent/carers, tutors, Local authorities and schools & other professionals).

About You

We are looking for someone that is passionate about improving outcomes for disadvantaged learners as well as continually improving the quality of learning to the benefit of each learner. It is a dynamic role for an exceptional person who has either therapeutic or education experience (SEN would be an advantage). This role requires someone with team leadership experience and is skilled in communicating with stakeholders at all levels, from parent/carers to senior staff within local authorities and schools.

Benefits:

  • Health Cash Plan – claim back from healthcare and wellbeing appointments such as dentists, opticians, sports massages plus many more.
  • Free Flu jabs
  • Sick pay (after probationary period)
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Company pension
  • Car scheme available for Electric vehicle leases
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • All employees are eligible for the Blue Light Card, this offers amazing discounts on, family days out, holidays, cinema trips, retail stores plus more
  • Discounts with local companies including a Leisure Centre and Chiropractor
  • Recommend a friend and earn up to £500

*** Successful candidates will be required to go through a thorough safeguarding onboarding process which requires a full employment history review along with a completed enhanced DBS check***

We are actively building diverse teams therefore we welcome and encourage applicants from all backgrounds. We want to create an inclusive environment where everyone can contribute their best work and develop to their full potential.
