Why is this role important and how does it fit into the team, department and wider firm?

To work within the firm’s corporate team advising clients on a range of transactional matters, and actively participating in the team’s business development activities.


We are seeking to enhance the corporate team through the recruitment of a Senior Associate with general corporate law and transactional experience. The ideal candidate should have experience of acting on corporate finance transactions including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and private equity transactions, in addition to drafting standard corporate documents such as articles of association, shareholders agreements and SPAs.

What does the role actually involve?

  • Providing advice to the firm’s corporate clients on time and to the expected standard of technical competence.
  • Understanding client requirements and managing cases in line with agreed timetables and best practice.
  • Prioritise work effectively.
  • Develop increased levels of technical and commercial knowledge through training and supervision.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Actively participating in the corporate team’s development and marketing activities including:
  • assisting with preparing and presenting seminars;
  • issuing bulletins and articles on topical subjects;
  • attending events with clients and intermediaries; and
  • participation in support of tender presentations.


What technical skills are required for someone to be successful and enjoy the role?

  • Demonstrable experience and technical expertise appropriate to a Senior Associate level of PQE in advising clients on corporate law matters.
  • Excellent legal drafting skills, the ability to provide clear, concise and commercially relevant advice and to provide clients with legally and commercially effective solutions.
  • Up-to-date with legal developments and government policy within relevant sectors.
  • Good IT and keyboard skills, at ease with digital dictation, electronic time recording and MS Office and Outlook.

  • The ability to provide advice to clients to a high standard and often to tight timescales.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with clients, to get on well with clients and intermediaries and to build strong relationships with them.

  • Relevant experience in providing legal advice as outlined above.

  • An effective communicator and negotiator able to establish and maintain harmonious and professional relationships with clients and colleagues.
