As the Global Supply Chain and Operations Director you will be responsible for establishing and executing global sourcing & operations strategies to maximise the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the full-cycle material sourcing, manufacture, and shipment of products. This includes supplier selection, qualification, and management for technologically complex categories / supply base for new and current products; and leading the operations teams to deliver high quality products and fostering a metrics driven, continuous improvement culture that delivers meaningful results and further strengthens the ability to compete in the market. The role is responsible for leading global operations for Radiodetection with facilities in the UK, US, and Canada.


As the Global Supply Chain and Operations Director, you will develop and lead procurement strategies that result in the best value with regard to price, quality, delivery and inventory management performance and will also drive efficiencies within our global operations. You will play a leading role in achieving results from continuous improvement initiatives in the operational areas across all Radiodetection operating centers. Additionally, as the Global Supply Chain and Operations Director, you will lead the facilities and site management personnel at each location, including security, safety and the environment. You will have responsibility for site issues, manage safety and represent Radiodetection in day to day as well as key physical building or grounds-based decisions globally.


As this is a senior role, you will take on leadership responsibilities for various functional activities across the business to include driving employee engagement and health and safety at the sites and you will also be part of the Radiodetection Leadership Team.


What you can expect in this role


1. Sourcing/Operations Execution:

· Develop and execute short and long-term sourcing strategies that support technical, quality and commercial requirements.

· Create multi-year roadmap of strategic initiatives, continuous improvement, and supplier development programs

· Own and analyse the master financial reporting of business supplier costs, operational performance, and inventory management; identify opportunities for continuous improvement, value-add/value-engineering projects and other cost savings projects

· Use knowledge/expertise to manage operations, cost drivers, changing supply base, and market innovation to capture lower costs and/or high value alternatives to meet stakeholder needs

· Establish relationships with functional and divisional leaders to ensure operational and sourcing strategies align with our business goals and objectives. Collaborate on the smooth implementation of product changes, and operational execution

· Collaborate with Operations, Engineering and Quality teams to ensure customer needs are met. And on the sourcing side, develop and maintain quarterly supplier scorecard system

· Create sustainable and consistent processes for strategic sourcing initiatives, Operational improvements, RFQ/P, and commodity management

· Regularly adapt sourcing strategies in relation to market trends and business requirements to enhance effectiveness

· Develop and own strategic matrix of suppliers to identify risks, gaps and opportunities in supply chain, including the development new suppliers, dual/multi-source strategy, management of sole sourced suppliers when required, and exit strategies for suppliers that don’t meet supplier standards

· Support operations and product development to ensure contingencies and buy/make/partner are appropriately evaluated and identified.

· Assess the supply market, our current and future state to develop sourcing strategies and risk mitigation; includes monitoring tariffs to proactively manage impact on business.

· Support and influence NPD (New Product Development) programs in a cross functional setting with product management, engineering, manufacturing, and quality to identify emerging technologies and potential suppliers

· Own results for key performance metrics and the annual budget

· Acquire a deep understanding of the supply markets that provide material, products, or services.

· Identify and aggregate technical, commercial, risk, opportunity, and demand requirement for contract negotiation. Lead negotiation and execution of key agreements.

· Lead the development and execute the Supplier Management strategy and approach including Supplier Relationship Management, Performance Management, Issue Resolution, and the identification/ onboarding of new suppliers. Utilise formal processes for supplier selection, qualification, contracting and management, including working with low cost country commodity manager to inform the sourcing strategy

2. Continuous Improvement

· VA/VE - Work closely with long term suppliers to manage this core supply base for productivity/cost down initiatives through the use of VA/VE tools.

· Supplier Kanbans/VMI - Work closely with the supplier base to and the lean group to actively integrate the suppliers into SPX plants through the appropriate use of Kanbans, VMI and related tools.

· Actively optimise the company’s production capability by driving a continuous improvement process to measure current performance, identify opportunities, develop plans and effect change to improve results

· Manage footprint rationalisation program

· Champion and drive total cost of ownership (TCO) reductions.


3. Management/Leadership:

· Drive employee engagement and be a key protagonist in effecting change within the organisation

· Provide effective and appropriate communication to all employees to ensure timely and consistent information; this includes facilitating regular All Employee and skip level meetings

· Provide monthly report to Radiodetection leadership team highlighting progress against initiatives, employee feedback and operations

· Set and communicate standards of performance and appraise employee performance

· Drive completion of employee surveys and training initiatives

· Ensure that changes to policies, procedures and standards are communicated and implemented accordingly, including site safety procedures


4. Health & Safety & facility management

· Work with site leads to effectively communicate any policy/procedure changes relating to facility or EHS from Corporate or divisional, in addition to ensuring co-chairing of Health & Safety meetings. Work with HR and responsible leadership to drive any policy/procedure changes to ensure regulatory compliance.

· Ensure buildings are maintained through the identification and acting on repairs; ensure that plant and equipment is being maintained effectively

· Work with site leads to ensure that Emergency Preparedness plan is current, and training and equipment are maintained

Required Experience

· Proven track record in driving productivity and value add through continuous improvement, negotiations and supplier management.

· In-depth understanding of global supply chains, logistics and operations

· Experience in outsourcing, contract management and supplier management

· Demonstrated experience in valuing clear and solid understanding of personnel policies, practices, and procedures and other operational issues faced by the organisation

· 5-10 years’ experience of strategic sourcing and leading global operations


Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Strong understanding of global supply chains, logistics, and continuous improvement

· Demonstrated ability to lead continuous improvement, lean savings, outsourcing models, and process improvements

· Experience working in ERP related systems

· Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate and collaborate across organisational levels (production employees, engineering, sales, leadership)

· Proven ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve goals

· Proven experience attracting, retaining, motivating, and developing high performing, diverse teams

· Ability to prioritise tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines

· Strong leadership and team building skills

· Strong organisational, written and verbal communication skills

· Experienced negotiator with excellent supplier management skills

· Ability to be both strategic and tactical

· Sound knowledge of operational processes, including production planning, scheduling, inventory management, and quality control

· Must be available for short notice international and domestic travel

· Minimum Bachelor’s Degree of engineering, business administration, process engineering or related field

· MBA preferred

· Demonstrated leadership skills, with a strong focus on operations, continuous improvement and business processes
