The Role:


The role sits with a leading Pensions Insurance Specialist and will report directly to the Senior Counsel within the legal function. The ideal candidate is an experienced Lawyer with over 4 years of post-qualification experince specialising in UK Regulatory Law. You will provide high-quality commercially focused regulatory legal advice to Compliance and the wider business, as well as assist the firm on wider strategic projects.


Job Responsibilities:

  • To provide high-quality legal advice on UK financial regulatory issues, including FCA and PRA rules, compliance requirements, market conduct and market abuse.
  • Assist the Legal and Compliance teams and the wider business to help ensure that all relevant current regulations are adhered to.
  • Advise on future regulatory developments which could be relevant to the firm as well as assist with the drafting of responses to FCA and PRA consultation papers, and relevant trade bodies such as the ABI.
  • Assist with managing the firm’s SM&CR framework and ensure that the firm ensures compliance with its ongoing regulatory obligations in this area.
  • Lead on discrete regulatory projects from time to time, for example, to ensure that the firm’s policies and procedures in a particular area are appropriate and effective, or take responsibility for developing the firm’s response to a particular issue.
  • To manage business-as-usual queries, projects and queries on existing regulatory issues with care and high standards of customer service.
  • To communicate effectively to ensure a team approach and a consistently high standard of service and to be an ambassador of customer service excellence in all interactions with the team, other departments and stakeholders.
  • Coordinating and instructing external legal counsel in connection with all the above.

Skills and experience required:

  • UK-qualified Solicitor or similar qualification.
  • At least 4+ years of relevant PQE with the financial services industry.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the regulatory landscape in the UK and the EU.
  • Experience in advising on regulatory compliance issues e.g. FSMA, COBS, the FCA’s Consumer Duty, MAR and other relevant laws and regulations.
  • Ability to stay current with evolving legal and regulatory developments in the financial services sector.
  • Demonstrable project and transaction management skills.
  • Proven commercial skills and a willingness to add value to an in-house environment.
  • Maturity of judgement and approach.
  • Possessing initiative and ‘self starter’ mentality, proactive and willing to take on more work as required.
  • Attention to detail and high accuracy of work.
