What is A&J School?


A&J School has been awarded with the 2024 King’s Award for Enterprise, the UK's most prestigious business awards.


A&J School is a full-time online school. We have been delivering British and American curricula to students from 13yo onwards. We have been in the industry since 2012 and moved into full-time schooling in 2022. We also continue to teach a number of part-time students who also study at in-person schools.


Why do we exist?

We exist because many students leave schools without the skills they need to succeed in adult life. We offer a premium tuition and mentoring service for a range of students including those wishing to apply to the world’s top universities.


Are we right for every student?

Definitely not. We do not offer sport, drama, art, and our students' in-person socialising is limited.

Where are we going?


We want to become a world-leading online school with full-time and part-time students who achieve outstanding results and have the skills they need to succeed. We currently have a lot of demand from part-time students and we are looking to establish and develop our full-time programmes.


Last financial year, our revenue was £1,300,000. We are targeting £10,000,000 in revenue by 31st August 2028.


Description of the Role

The role will initially be part-time, but as the school grows, there is scope for the role to become full-time. Excellent performance will open up the opportunity to become a Partner of A&J School.


We are looking for a teacher who can deliver excellent classes in Natural Science subjects to students at a range of different ages and levels of ability. We are also looking for somebody who wants to help develop our full-time programmes. This will be a demanding role which will sometimes require responding to student requests at short notice. Applicants will need to be adaptable and highly committed to the School.


Who are we looking for?


Essential Criteria:


  • Ability to teach at least two of Biology/Chemistry/Physics up to A-Level standard.


  • Strong proficiency with KS3, GCSE and A-Level curricula for at least two of Biology/Chemistry/Physics.


  • A minimum of 5 years’ teaching experience, at least a substantial proportion of which should be with online teaching.


  • Strong interest in, and preferably experience of, mentoring students and assisting them with applications to competitive universities.


  • Willingness to embrace flexible work. Busiest times are likely to be weekdays 2pm-7pm UTC. Occasional work at evenings and weekends.


  • Proficiency with online teaching software, such as Google Classroom, and willingness to learn new software tools.



Desirable Criteria:


  • Experience teaching Mathematics and/or the “third” science (e.g. Physics, in case Biology and Chemistry are your specialist subjects) up to some level (KS3/GCSE/A-Level/IB).


  • Experience with teaching, and/or readiness to learn to teach, IB Biology/Chemistry/Physics.


  • Experience supporting students applying to Medicine and/or Dentistry degrees.


  • Experience teaching at least one of Biology/Chemistry/Physics at undergraduate level.


  • Training and/or experience in teaching students with special educational needs.



What do we offer: salary?


  • £45K pro-rata for UK based applicants/ Competitive international equivalent for International applicants.
  • 28 days’ pro-rata annual leave.
  • Private health insurance contribution for yourself and/or family member
  • 10% private pension match scheme (we contribute 10% towards your private pension instead of statutory 3%). Pro-rata equivalent.

We are fully-remote. There is no commute.
