Job Purpose

Responsible for Bennamann’s Environmental Compliance and permitting requirements.

To lead and operationally take action on all Environmental activities for Bennamann, ensuring that the people and customer sites we provide solutions to, are legally compliant and meet environmental permitting requirements (Environment Agency, and Natural England, etc.).

Establish, review, implement and maintain the Environmental Management System (EMS), to ISO 14001 across all sites and ensure that all the required records are maintained as per regulatory requirements.

To be the subject matter expert for the company on environmental legislation and guide our CEO and all Bennamann employees on environmental topics, including ensuring all required reporting is completed for all sites on time and that operating permits are managed within limits.



Operational Duties and responsibilities·

  • Design and responsibility for the environmental compliance strategy, with support and oversight from an external consultancy, for all Bennamann sites and installations by developing and aligning a site plan, according to business, corporate and regulatory needs

· Manage and carry out environmental permits, annual environmental assessments / reporting and documentation to verify compliance performance at each site

· Collate technical and planning documents to support various permit and planning applications including variations to the Environment Agency (EA) and Local Planning Authority (LPA)

· Submit and progress applications, acting as first point of contact for responses and queries with the relevant statutory body

· Define and execute testing or survey studies as required to validate performance against permit requirements

· Work with finance team to develop budgets and timelines for applications on selected sites

· Collaborate with Engineering Team, Head of QSHE and Farm Project Manager for proposal and site plan alignment with regulations

· Perform internal environmental inspections and audits

· Assess environmental requirements of the of all aspects of waste, air, water discharge

· Coordinate and action any environmental monitoring required to comply with local regulations and operating permits

· Oversee, obtain and maintain all environmental permits

· Preempt environmental issues at Bennamann sites

· Oversee management of Environmental accidents and incidents if they arise and oversee root cause analysis

· Implement and collaborate on the Integrated ISO Management System for ongoing compliance, assess and improve overall compliance with ISO 14001 aligning with responsibility and accountability for actions as documented within HR-101a MyC RACI

· Design and deliver internal environmental compliance training to team and site staff

· Understand site permit and licences to manage compliance improvements

· Lead on- and off-site customer Duty of Care audits

· Follow procedures to ensure compliance with company ISO standards

Peer group / cross team liaison:

· Maintain a good working relationship with colleagues and peers, reflecting Bennamann values

· Colloborate with Engineering, Head of QSHE, Commercial team and Project Management to ensure clear communication and accuracy on design, compliance and plans

Reporting and communication

· Report on all environmental issues monthly to senior leadership team

· Prepare and submit annual reporting on existing permitted sites

· Responsible for leading on environmental compliance at annual ISO audits/reviews

Experience in (essential):

Agricultural EA permitting and audits, as well as LPA application submissions

Waste processing

Project management

Demonstrated ability to implement integrated management systems like PAS 99, ISO 14001 with strong knowledge of ISO auditing standards

Credibility to communicate, advise and report at senior management level


(desirable)

Ex-DEFRA or EA / experience of liaison with

Experience of interaction with local authorities

Strong knowledge of biogas and agricultural waste / AD sites

Working knowledge of COMAH sites

Experience managing sub-contractors and collaborating with cross-functional teams


Education/ Training Essential:

Batchelor’s or equivalent qualification in environment, chemistry or related science


WAMITAB Level 4


COTC L4 in organic treatment
