Our customer, a reputed Telecommunications firm, is looking for an Environmental lawyer for a 7–9-month contract starting in September 2024 to join their Property, Infrastructure, and Environment team. They are also open to considering part-time secondments of 3-4 days per week.


Ideally based in customers one of the hub offices (Bristol, London, Snowhill, Manchester or Belfast) but will consider entirely virtual secondments with occasional visits to the London office.


Key Responsibilities:

Providing legal support to the Group in relation to:

  • environmental incidents
  • ISO14001 recertification (September 2024-March 2025) including associated legal reviews
  • customer and supplier contract drafting
  • horizon scanning and implementing legislative changes
  • asbestos-related issues including duties under the CAR 2012.


Focus On:

  • Deal with environmental contract queries re the Clauses and advising Group (e.g. procurement/sustainability team) in relation to policy documentation/relevant legislation for inclusion etc.
  • Inputting at weekly/monthly/quarterly forums (EMS incident call, Site Aspect Forum, Product Stewardship Forum) including providing advice on specific environmental legal issues, horizon scanning and supporting the business through key legislation changes e.g. Single Stream Recycling (Wales), Simpler Recycling (England), RPS211.
  • Supporting Group and the EMS through the ISO14001 recertification period (Sept 2024- March 2025) including specific legal advice on open LRQA minor non-conformances.
  • Proving legal support to Group in relation to environmental incidents and dealing with all communications with environmental Regulators, also dealing with comms in relation to any contentious/potentially contentious issues with Local Authorities (including EHO’s), MPs, members of the public.
  • Providing support to Group in relation to asbestos-related issues, including reviewing/drafting and approving internal and external comms, coordinating input from third party experts and advising senior stakeholders (Exec level).
  • Use the standard systems, processes, guidance and templates available in each practice area.
  • Horizon scan and keep your legal knowledge up to date; ensure colleagues are kept up to date.
  • Need to be able to work independently and lead, support and collaborate with colleagues as part of a wider business team (including Property and Facilities Services, Health and Safety, Environmental Incident teams, Group Risk and Audit teams and briefings to the leadership)


Knowledge, skills and experience

  • A qualified solicitor holding a practising certificate for England & Wales.
  • Minimum 3PQE in Environmental law, preferably within a leading law firm.
  • Excellent understanding of environmental regulations.
  • Strong drafting skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent client care skills with an ability to handle matters independently.
  • Exceptional communication skills - both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities/deadlines effectively.
  • Commitment towards promoting diversity and inclusion within the legal profession.
