The oldest working distillery on the Isle of Skye is set on the shores of Loch Harport with dramatic views of the Cuillins. Producing an alluring, sweet, full-bodied single malt is so easy to enjoy, and like Skye itself, so hard to leave. At Talisker, we produce the most popular peated Single Malt in the world. We deliver safely, efficiently and in a sustainable way as one engaged team for Whisky Explorers and Scotch Supply, to sustain consumer delight.

About the role

As a Senior Operator, you will play a pivotal role in the whisky production process and will oversee and control all site production and process activities. You will maintain a safe and organised workplace environment through adherence to site Safety and housekeeping practices. This includes working with your fellow Senior Operators and Engineers to play a proactive role in situational problem solving on shift and contribute to reviews of ways of working including risk assessments and work instructions.

A key aspect of Senior Operator role at Talisker is that flexibility is required. You're going to be responsible for both manual and automated production recording and management reporting systems. We want to see how you will optimise our production processes to maximise our performance.

You'll be responsible for quality control across the whisky production process, including performing autonomous maintenance tasks, general site housekeeping, inspection, and lubrication of machinery, and acting as a first response to operational issues.

The role holder will become comfortable with lone-working and will have the confidence to depend upon their own initiative to make key business decisions. Key performance measures for this operation involves, Safety, Quality, Service, Cost and People.

Shifts

Due to the nature of our site, and our operation runs 24/7 365-day, the successful candidate will require to be flexible and able to work shifts. Where required operators could be asked to cover rotas during their rostered days off. Three periods of holidays are set within the rota throughout the year (holiday swap is possible amongst the team).

About You

We are looking for diverse thinking individuals that will be able to act independently, through own initiative and be able to work well within a team. Ability to think outside the box without fear of voicing your thoughts is key. You will be a team player; able to positively challenge but also support your colleagues and your line manager during day-to-day operations.

Previous manufacturing experience within food production environment would be beneficial but not essential. We are looking for fast learners and critical thinkers that will support the journey of Talisker Distillery into sustainable and digital future.

Qualifications like NVQ level 2 Food and Drink, Certificate or Diploma in Brewing or Distilling are an advantage though not essential for the role. Desire and ambition to learn and master the art of distilling is essential. Full training and support will be provided. Previous knowledge of process controls and problem-solving techniques is advantageous and strong computer literacy is required. The future is digital and ability to adapt to changing world is essential.
