Your New Opportunity:

We’re looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our Garvagh-based team. Reporting to the Operations Director, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering diverse, high-stakes projects on time, within budget, and to exacting quality standards. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead quantity surveying duties from project inception through to final account preparation
  • Prepare, monitor, and manage project budgets, ensuring cost-effective solutions and reporting on any commercial issues
  • Assist with estimating, preparing detailed bids, and compiling tender documents
  • Negotiate, draft, and review contracts with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
  • Collaborate closely with project managers and engineers for seamless project execution
  • Conduct risk assessments to mitigate commercial and contractual risks
  • Deliver monthly reports, including cost analysis, overhead monitoring, and Earned Value reports
  • Ensure compliance with all industry standards, safety protocols, and internal policies


What You’ll Bring to Smyth Steel:

  • Experience: 2-3 years as a Quantity Surveyor in construction or engineering, with specific expertise in structural steel
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field
  • Skills: Proficiency in cost estimation software and BIM, plus a working knowledge of contracts such as NEC, JCT, and CECA
  • Attributes: Analytical mindset, meticulous attention to detail, and strong communication skills
  • Competencies: Effective prioritization, critical thinking, and a collaborative spirit to foster teamwork
  • Flexibility: Willingness to travel as needed across the UK
