This is a fast paced and exciting role where you will lead a team of three to deliver our sourcing agenda across Europe and the Rest of the World (outside the Far East) as part of our Furniture Global Sourcing team and on point for maintaining a robust supply base and managing supplier performance.

Accountable for leading the sourcing strategy execution in the region driving value in cost of goods, working capital and lead times while continuing to lead change programs in our operating model.

You will need to be able to think on your feet and make decisions at pace to ensure delivery against key objectives, while leading and motivating a high performing team through role modelling our colleague values. You will act as a coach, managing, motivating and developing the Sourcing team to provide a pipeline of future talent. You will be an integral part of the broader Furniture team globally and will have the opportunity to travel internationally on occasion.

What I need to do
  • Understand the sales and margin performance and priorities of your department from weekly trade ensuring our Sourcing responds to trading requirements and priorities
  • Development and implementation of an effective regional Sourcing Strategy for your department, sourcing and developing a robust supply base that combines regional manufacturing strengths
  • Play an active role in the business planning framework ensuring sourcing plans reflect departmental commercial strategy
  • Ensuring the supply base delivers our strategic targets in terms of direct and indirect mix, country of origin mix and margin rate expectations
  • Working collaboratively with Design, Buying and Merchandising in delivering ongoing improvements in cost of goods through our end to end profitability objectives including open costing, fabric sourcing and better buying at the right quality
  • Leading continuity program tenders and signing off consolidated pricing from multiple suppliers in the region, working with your departmental Sourcing peers in other markets
  • Ensure a great customer experience through your team's management of the milestones within the critical path ensuring any issues are resolved through liaising with suppliers and stakeholder
  • Deliver operational excellence through managing capacity with our suppliers and providing stock solutions with selective suppliers to improve working capital and quality of stock in collaboration with the UK Merchandising team
  • Leading change projects across our Commercial operation in collaboration with UK based team members driving improvement in systems and delivering efficient and effective processes; support the sustainability agenda
  • Working in partnership with your Technical and Ethical colleagues to ensure excellence in quality management and social compliance across all our sites
  • Play a positive role as a leader in ensuring Sainsbury's is a great place to work communicating our vision, goal and values with enthusiasm


What I need to know
  • Proven track record & recent comparable experience in sourcing, buying or merchandising in the Furniture industry
  • Comprehensive knowledge of production processes, techniques, and product components
  • Excellent knowledge of UK market trends, competition, pricing and brands; I know our current trading context
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills; culturally familiar with the different regions I work with

  • Relationship builder - ability to identify & engage key stakeholders through confident communication to influence & engage at all levels
