Business Banking Head


To provide thought leadership and enhance the strategy of the branch network.


  • Development and successful execution of a liabilities and deposit strategy for the bank and executing that through the Branch Managers and Relationship Officers. Setting and monitoring deposit generation targets of the BMs and ROs
  • Building a client network and deposit base in HBL UK’s target market of South Asian diaspora, Pakistan resident clients, select emerging markets (south Africa) resident clients and UK resident SME/family owned companies/sponsors
  • Focus on reducing low value relationships and continuously pruning the Business Banking depository client portfolio
  • Balancing the client risk profile between high risk/emerging market clients and UK resident clients
  • Implementation of new products including (and not limited to), international payments and cash management
  • Integral involvement in implementation of Consumer Duty regulation including new polices and procedures targeting improvement in customer experience, product design and product value
  • Develop and maintain MIS and dashboards that become management tools to monitor the business targets including deposit growth and international payments volume
  • Responsible for all client due diligence (CDD) as part of the bank’s KYC process and supporting the KYC team in achieving review deadlines
  • Lead the commercial banking KYC team. Ensure a high level of compliance standards and CDD within the branches. Ensure regular interactions with Compliance on mitigating EDD and FCC risks (this could change as we re-organise structure)
  • Improve the client onboarding process by centralising it in the KYC team
  • Day to day management of the Business Banking Branches including setting up a pragmatic control and transaction approval system.
  • Promote teamwork and collaboration through the newly embedded organizational and cultural values. Demonstrate the values by setting examples in expected behaviour for bank values
  • Ongoing coaching and mentoring of branch staff
  • Regular performance Management of the Branch Managers in conjunction with Head of Commercial
  • Responsible for ongoing client marketing and entertainment, organise periodic client events
  • Role, responsibility, and duties of HOBB/Branch Manager of Whitechapel would not be limited to the above and would include each and every action / decision required to promote business of the branch and to achieve agreed goals and targets and any other tasks assigned by the Head of Commercial Banking & Strategic Growth that will be in line with the bank’s overall goal.
  • Direct management of the BM of Manchester, RO’s, operations team, Liabilities RM & BDM in Whitechapel – Customer Service Officer, professional development, on-going training & annual appraisal.
  • The HOBB/BM KPIs primarily require growth in the core business function of the branch they are assigned to manage, focused on the liabilities as well as some of the asset book. This covers mainly Deposits & Trade Services (Imports, Exports, Collections, and ancillary Business) along with building and maintaining a small healthy lending portfolio; besides other services tendered to the customers.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Business or Quantitative degree with a background Business Banking
  • 10+ years of relevant working experience in banking
  • Business Development and Customer Services skills
  • Relationship / People Management skills
  • Marketing, Selling, Negotiations and Analytics skills
  • Excellent verbal communication, Witten and presentation skills
