Strategic Skills Manager

Hampshire, South East England, United Kingdom HAMPSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL Full time

The Role:

Are you someone who will collaborate with others to help develop an evidence-based strategic vision, set out a detailed plan and craft tactics to deliver a set of measurable objectives?

Hampshire County Council’s new Economy and Skills Team, within the Hampshire 2050 Directorate, are seeking a Strategic Skills Manager. This role will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of Hampshire’s Skills Strategy, working closely with the Economy team, employers, colleges, universities and other local stakeholders.

The Skills Strategy will provide a strategic skills framework for the area, a clear vision for the employment and skills needs of the local economy, and some key actions to take forward to help Hampshire boost economic prosperity, innovation and skills.

Sitting alongside the Strategic Funding Manager and reporting to the Strategic Skills Lead, this role will work with key internal and external partners to develop the Skills Strategy and lead on delivery of the accompanying action plan.

Strategic partners will need regular insights into the local economy and labour market to test the suitability of the outputs from the Skills Strategy. Therefore, this role will work closely with the Intelligence Team and act as a key point of contact for the two Local Skills Improvement Plans (LSIPs) and for the post-16 provider network, to ensure alignment of skills support to employers’ needs and economic growth.

Other aspects to this exciting role include:

  • advising on identification of and securing skills programme funding.
  • helping to ensure a coherent, embedded approach to skills and careers.
  • ensuring alignment between the Hampshire Skills and Economic strategies.

What We Can Offer You:

Hampshire County Council is recognised nationally as one of the highest performing local authorities in the UK. A modern, forward-looking local authority, it offers a pleasant, supportive, and collaborative working environment. We can offer great flexible working options for this role as we've invested heavily in various technologies to support ongoing remote working options. This role can be partly carried out remotely, but some office-based working will be required to support business needs.

Hampshire County Council is also a flexible employer interested in making the most of your skills and offers a great work life balance. We invest in you through our internal development programmes and training and offer a competitive salary and benefits package.
