An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Marketing & Communications professional to join Shared Interest Society on a fixed-term contract, covering a maternity leave.
As the Marketing & Communications Manager, you will be responsible for managing an integrated process of planning, review and development of marketing and communications across print and online channels. This key role involves:
- Contributing to the overarching marketing strategy and developing/implementing marketing communication plans
- Acting as brand guardian and lead copywriter/editor
- Managing all social media platforms and PR activity
- Overseeing the production of marketing materials, including the quarterly member magazine and all regional /national campaigns
- Monitoring marketing ROI and managing the budget
To be successful in this role, you will need at least 5 years' communications experience, strong copywriting and people management skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-task environment. Experience in the membership sector is desirable.

MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER – MATERNITY COVER – Fixed Term Contract
Reports to: Member Engagement Director
Responsible for: Marketing & Communications Officer
Role and Responsibilities
Manage an integrated process of planning, review and development of appropriate marketing and communications in a range of print and online formats/media for appropriate target audiences.
Core Tasks
- Contribute to the overarching Marketing and Communications Strategy for Shared Interest Society and charitable arm Shared Interest Foundation.
- Work with the Member Engagement Director to develop and implement Marketing Communications Plans
- Act as brand guardian and lead copywriter/editor
- Lead on the copywriting, design and production of all marketing materials including quarterly member magazine, promotional materials for the Lending Team, Shared Interest Foundation and all regional and national campaigns
- Manage all social media platforms
- Lead all PR activity
- Lead on appropriate award submissions
- Commission and manage relationships with external design and print agencies
- Continue the relationship with relevant sector-based contacts to build brand awareness and widen networks regionally and nationally
- Lead the commissioning of all content gathering, UK and internationally
- Lead offline and online content development, including website and social media
- Manage the maintenance of the online application process, and the online member portal
- Monitor ROI of marketing activity and report to Member Engagement Director
- Oversee budget allocation
- Help to ensure effective internal communications
People
- Manage the Marketing & Communications Officer
- Act in supporting role to Member Engagement Director
- Member of the Middle Management Team
Key Business Reporting and Administration
• Lead on the production of a monthly report for the Member Engagement Director
• Produce a ROI report on press and media activity for each Board meeting
Miscellaneous
- Carries out any other work necessary to maintain excellent customer service, and any other duties commensurate with this post, or as reasonably requested by senior management.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- At least five years’ communications experience, encapsulating marketing, media relations and brand/identity development and management
- Experience collaborating with external design agencies, photographers and filmmakers to produce high quality visual content
- Strong copywriting skills with experience of producing a range of marketing materials, including digital and print collateral
- Familiarity with content management systems and basic HTML
- Proficiency of business planning and budgeting and ability to report effectively against targets
- Experience in producing content for social media platforms including Meta, Instagram, X, YouTube and LinkedIn
- Strong team leader with excellent people management and team building skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-task environment, adapting priorities to meet changing deadlines
- Excellent project management skills
- Excellent customer relationship management skills with experience of persuading and influencing senior staff and directors
- Ability to think innovatively and identify and develop opportunities
- Self-motivated, proactive, organised and able to use initiative and prioritise (self and others) in a multi-task environment to meet agreed deadlines
Desirable:
- Experience of membership schemes and development
Education and Qualifications
Essential:
- Fluency in English
- GCSE Maths and English or equivalent
- Educated to degree level, or equivalent practical experience in marketing/communications
- PR/Marketing qualification or equivalent professional experience
Limits of Authority. Within Society guidelines, policies and procedure the post holder will be expected to
- Manage the Member Engagement Team expenditure within the approved budget
- Submit all expense claims promptly
- Gain line management approval for all large purchases within policy guidelines
